One year ago, I was home visiting my family for Christmas. I sat on our patio furniture with my mom & sister balling my eyes out at the mess I had created. I had broken up with my long-term boyfriend just weeks before, and everything felt heavy. So heavy, I didn’t think I was strong enough to stick to what I know my heart told me was right. I sat on that patio furniture struggling to come to terms with the end of this relationship. So I decided I was going to make the ‘easy’ decision. I was going to stay. I kept telling myself - I was happy enough, right? Wrong. Kinda happy isn’t happy. Loving someone isn’t being IN love. Knowing you’re meant to walk away but staying for your own selfish fear of the future isn’t fair for you & it’s definitely not fair for them. I had always dreamed of getting married young and starting a family. Leaving felt like a failure, like I was putting myself so many steps behind in this race of life. I felt crazy for walking away from a life and a love I once wanted. But I had changed, and this relationship wasn’t meant for me anymore. As hard as that was for me to accept, I knew this couldn’t be my forever. I couldn’t settle. I had to give this new, brave version of myself freedom to roam. Freedom to feel like it was ok to change my mind. Of course I want to find that passionate love, I would say most of us do. Of course, I want a family. But I also want to find the direction I am dreaming in. Because my dreams look different now, and if that puts me behind society standards — I am more than okay with it. My heart asked me to believe in more, so I did✨
2017: This was a life changing year for our family. @chrisjspath had almost died from necrotizing fasciitis. We spent the year healing (physically and emotionally) and just trying to 'get back to normal'. This was the hardest time in my life. We lived on fast food, microwave meals, and daily used food as comfort and stress management. 2018: We realized we needed a change. We needed to get healthy for ourselves but also as a better example to our children. Started Keto over and over for the first 3 months of the year but couldn't stick to it. We found Carnivore in the summer and things finally clicked. We were goal driven, determined to stay on track, and we lost almost 250 pounds combined. 2019: We figured out how to transition to maintaince. (Reality Check 🙋♂️) SHREDDING SUCKS ❌ ⤵️ Instagram has made it seem as if the normal body-fat percentage for all individuals is sub 10% (for males), and under 15% for females. First of all, let me state that this is NOT true nor healthy 🙅♂️ Not one bit... Shredding, or in other words, trying to lose as MUCH body-fat as possible to improve your overall body composition, is not fun. Don’t take my word for it, ask any other physique competitor dieting for weeks on end, with nothing on their plate but desert dry chicken breast and microwaved broccoli. Sure the main benefits are you look shredded to the bone, crazy vascular, and you see muscles you didn’t even know ever existed, but the sacrifice is not ultimately not worth it. Despite looking my best, I felt like my absolute worst... This was me at the day prior to my competition. All I though about was FOOD. I didn’t care about the fact that I was the lowest body-fat I have ever acquired, I just wanted to BINGE so hard on Coles Blueberry Muffins. It was unhealthy. Food occupied 70% of my thought processes. I checked the weight scale compulsively, terrified about not hitting a new low weigh-in. Your body was not designed to survive in these extremely low-body fat percentages. Some systems literally shut off just to keep the body running without wasting any energy on anything else but to survive. Your metabolism gets wrecked, your mental-health deteriorates, your muscles become flat, getting a pump becomes near-impossible, and downing three shots of triple espresso does nothing to your already broken energy levels. So just remember, is getting shredded absolutely necessary for your lifestyle? Will you feel or perform at your optimal best under these body-fat percentages? Stay at a body-day percentage you know you can maintain, while feeling amazing, having a healthy relationship with food, and living life

The @1stphorm 8 week sprint challenge wraps up tomorrow and I am excited to see everyone’s results! . With vacation, holidays, and getting hurt, there were a lot of obstacles to getting results during this challenge and was pumped to end where I did! Trying to cut down while holding on to strength and size was definitely tough, but I managed to drop down from 10% to 8% BF on my @inbodyusa scans while adding a pound of lean body mass! . I am excited to switch my focus for the next 16 weeks to solely strength and size to see where we can get! .
