One of my “whys” stopped by today, just in time for me to need some cheering up. Teaching is HARD y’all. I swear I come to work most days with bags under my eyes and hair lookin a mess. Recently I’ve questioned why I choose to work such a difficult job with so many responsibilities and then this guy shows up from my first year teaching here 😭❤️ This student always had my back when my class was mismanaged, and always was eager to learn. It warms my heart that he’s doing so well in college and that he came back to see me! The kids have always been my reason why and I feel so blessed to make an impression on them.
I mean, really, I can’t walk into a room without a crowd screaming my name, I can’t go anywhere in public without being recognized, I’m always blinded by fluorescent lights, I spend my time coming up with new and exciting ways to keep my audience engaged, and at the end of the day, I do it all for my fans. It’s hard being famous! 😎✨ Now, the money part... I’m not so sure about 🤔😂 One more week until winter break! We got this 💪🏼👊🏼👏🏼 P.S. Go Ravens 💜🏈 #moneyandfame#almostwinterbreak#madeinfifthgrade
A WHOLE MOOD. 🙌🏼😂👏🏼 Y’all, when my student walked into homeroom today wearing this sweatshirt, I just about spit out my coffee. I was like, “DOES THAT COME IN AN ADULT SIZE?” Obviously I had to take her picture. I told her to make a face that went with the shirt, to which she rolled her eyes and made this face which was the cherry on top of this picture. And for the very small percentage of my followers who actually know her, it’s even better, but I’m sure you all can feel her personality through this picture. I just love her so much. And her shirt. And right now I’m at the point that I like naps more than people. And I just wish I was napping all the time. Is it winter break yet?! That’s all. 7 more school days until there are more naps and less people. We got this. 💪🏼👊🏼🙏🏼🔜 #ilikenapsmorethanpeople#almostwinterbreak#madeinfifthgrade
1. I love having a “front door.” 2. We have a weekly estimation jar. Whoever gets closest, takes home the contents of the jar. It has increased estimation strategies and efforts 100%. They estimate as they enter on Fridays. 3. Half birthdays are celebrated if you were born in the summer. I’ve found that it means a lot to kids. Birthday door sign idea from the sweet @brynnsteacherbag 4. Cute metal sign from Jane!

Student gifts! 💖 It is not an expectation that a teacher buys gifts for their student, but it’s something I like to do! This year, the Year 5 teachers went with a personalised Bitmoji keyring (thank you @missmulhollands_masterclass for the idea!) and a Mr Men/Little Miss book each (from @aldiaustralia special buys a few weeks back). For my class, I also made them the reindeer class photo sheet that I did last year (info about that is available in my Instagram story highlights). It’s soooo cute but I can’t show it due to having their faces all over it. I hope they liked their little treats! 🎄💚
Trouble shooting 101💩. . What are your best tips for trouble shooting any type of problem you encounter🤷🏻♀️? . At last, Friday is here 😍! It wouldn’t be a hectic week without having to deal with equipment breaking on you. As if tons of marking, and manuscript revisions weren’t enough..😭 here we are. I was just thinking to myself last week “wow the eggs have been so good recently and the electrophys set up has cooperating”, I should have known in that moment that it was soon about to change 🙃. So, rather than dwelling on the negatives, I figured let’s talk about how to deal with things when they don’t go as expected, and dash on some tips for troubleshooting protocols/situations. . .1️⃣ Figure out the root of the problem: Although this may seem obvious, it’s not. I’m sure you have al experienced the initial shock of something not working out or breaking, and immediately go into panic mode. Take a step back, evaluate what happened, and identify the cause of the particular problem. You can’t begin fixing something until you know WHAT you are fixing☝🏼. . .2️⃣ Don’t blame yourself: I understand sometimes problems are preventable, but most of the time things happen which are out of your control. Don’t get hung up on what you “could have” done and try to focus on what you “can do” moving forward to fix the issue. We can be our toughest critics sometimes👎🏼. . .3️⃣ Ask for help: If you don’t quite know where to start with fixing the particular problem, it is OK to ask for help. It’s better to ask for help and address the issue head on, rather than trying to figure it out yourself and risking potentially making the issue worse. Asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness 💪🏼. . .4️⃣ Stay calm: Accidents happen💗. . Now that being said, as much as it’s sucks that the equipment broke on us the week leading into Christmas, it’s also not the end of the world. This almost

SURPRISE! I’ve gone back to the classroom! I’m wrapping up my first week at my new school, and I’m so excited to be teaching First Grade! YAY! First is actually the first grade I ever taught! 🍏 We originally thought I’d be taking the whole year off to stay home with Ace, but this opportunity as well as a spot at an amazing EC center came open and it felt like the stars aligned. 🍏 I’m so excited to continue sharing my journey in education with each of you!! Where are all my First Grade teachers at?! 🤗
The 4 elements🌍🌬🔥💧. . Happy Thursday my Habibis💗! Today’s science-ish makeup look is inspired by the very talented @abbyroberts ! Since this past week has been HECTIC to say the least, I am bringing you all a look that I created back in the summer, but never got around to posting. Here are the 4 philosophical elements: earth, air, water, and fire. . SCIENCE: The four elements of life were proposed by the ancient Greeks back in 450 BC! One very influential philosopher, Aristotle, embraced these 4 elements to be true and said that they made up all matter in this world. This theory was the beginning of all science and medicine to come🤞🏼. Now, fast forward many thousands of years, we now understand that these 4 elements are not “pure” and are actually made up of many other elements. For example, water it’s made up of the elements Hydrogen and Oxygen💧. We can still however still make a connection between these ancient elements of life and the current states of matter, which are well studied and understood. All things (matter) on this planet can be found in one of 4 different states. Those being Solid, Liquid, Gas, and Plasma. If you think about it, the 4 philosophical elements of matter coincide with the known states of matter. Solid can represent earth🌍, liquid can represent water💧, gas can represent air🌬, and plasma can represent fire 🔥 . . There you have it, a little history lesson mixed into some science 🙏🏼! Which quarter of my face are you most gravitated to? I personally connect with the fire.. but maybe that’s because I have fiery personality😭😩. . I wonder what would have happened if I had an anxiety attack at school. I’m usually able to keep my anxiety at bay. Between keeping to-do lists, working out regularly (hello, Body Pump and spin class), and focusing on one task at a time, I maintain my anxiety pretty well. However, today was a different story. I went to work late because I went to the elementary school to watch my son receive an award, so I already felt rushed. And even though I had coverage for my class and everything was fine, I felt rushed, and that’s not how I like to start my day. Throughout the day, the anxious feeling inside me grew and grew. •With every student that approached me during passing period or right after the bell rang as I was starting class (especially if there were multiple students at a time with multiple questions/demands), I felt a little bit more out of control. •Every time I had to pause to ask students to quiet down because there was too much talking, I felt rushed. •Whenever a student repeatedly tapped a pen or pencil on the table or smacked gum, I felt increasingly agitated. It’s never been like this at work before. Like I said, I’m pretty good at managing it. By the time the last period of the day rolled around, I had to pause during attendance to take some deep breaths. I pushed my students’ conversations into the background and listened to the sound of my lungs inflating and deflating. It helped. I was able to make it through the class period without feeling rushed and utterly out of control. So, while I advocate for teachers to keep the grading at school and to enjoy the weekends, here I am. I’ve brought essays home to grade over the weekend. Checking these off of my to-do list will help me feel better, more in control. Just knowing that they are here helps me know that I can get them done and have them graded by Monday. Plus, I like turning in semester grades on the last day of finals -which, for me, is Thursday, so this gets me one step
