10 years ago, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra brought Abhishek Bachchan and I together for what we knew would be a heart warming and genuine story about love, life and relationships. Here’s to celebrating those small, bright moments of soul searching. #10yearsofdelhi6 @bachchan #waheedarehman#ompuri @divyadutta25 @rakeyshommehra @amitabhbachchan #ronniescrewvala#prasoonjoshi @arrahman #rishikapoor @atulkulkarni_official @aditiraohydari @d_dobriyal1989 @pavanrajmalhotra

Right before I took this picture we were rehearsing a scene that we were about to start shooting. He whacked my script down to the floor and shouted, "don't do it like that!... Surprise them. Do it the wrong way, damn it!" --- his wisdom could shake a room. He was a close friend and throughout our time working together, he taught me more dirty jokes and pranks than I'd need to last two lifetimes. My thoughts about Omji right now are indescribable. I love you Omji. Your talent and your prolific work as an actor will forever resonate with the world. You are a master at your craft, a legend and a mentor who taught me more about acting and life than any classroom ever did. Rest In Peace, Papa. #ompuri
“One day Naseer and I were having a meal together and he asked me to try some meat. When I refused, he insisted that I should eat my rice with some gravy from the non-veg curry that he was eating. I tried and liked it. Then on another day he made me taste a small piece of meat and I liked that too. Eventually he made me a non-vegetarian too! #ompuri” . . . . . . . . . . #bollywoodirect#films#movies#mumbai#naseeruddinshah

Film || Muhafiz ( In Custody) | 1993 | Ismail Merchant | . It is difficult to preserve a language - sometimes more than art forms. To keep a language alive, it needs to be spoken. Pages need to be filled, songs sung, poetry weaved around the words, carefully chosen like gems from a necklace that has fallen off. . 'Aaj ek harf ko phir dhoondta phirta hai ḳhayaal madh bhara harf koi, zehr bhara harf koi, dil-nasheen harf koi, qahr bhara harf koi Aaj ek harf ko phir dhoondta phirta hai ḳhayaal.' (My thoughts keep searching for a word today A word brimming with passion, a word full of poison, A word from the heart, a word filled with rage My thoughts keep searching for a word today.') (From Faiz, used in the film). . Deven is a small-town college professor, teaching Hindi in class but among the handful who are passionate about Urdu, the dying language that needs healing. His middle-class household allows him to write a few poems now and then, but he hardly ever finds a publisher willing to invest in Urdu literature. But suddenly one day, his monotonous routine is brought to a halt and he gets an opportunity to interview his favourite poet, Nur Shahjahanabadi. Deven is starry-eyed, excited and eager to meet his inspiration and spend hours discussing poetry. But what greets him in the towering mansion of the ageing poet is not what he had imagined. There lies before him, a world of artists he had never known. Nur spends his days eating and drinking, always surrounded by a group of young admirers aka freeloaders who never seem to leave his side. Nur has a disturbed family as well, with his two wives at loggerheads with each other all the time. Deven suddenly falls in the midst of this chaotic household, and the great poet doesn't leave him awestruck anymore. Nur can put the most intricate thoughts into words, but he is unaware of his Chhoti Begum's frustration and grief. She isn't recognized as a poet - as if women can never be thinking individuals. She's always a
Om Puri reciting Dilip Chitre's poem in Ardh Satya. Full poem with translation— Chakravyuh mein ghusne se pehle, kaun tha mein aur kaisa tha, yeh mujhe yaad hi na rahega. Chakravyuh mein ghusne ke baad, mere aur chakravyuh ke beech, sirf ek jaanleva nikat’ta thi, iska mujhe pata hi na chalega. Soya hua aadmi jab neend se uthkar chalna shuru karta hai, tab sapnon ka sansar use, dobara dikh hi na paayega. Us roshni mein jo nirnay ki roshni hai sab kuchh s’maan hoga kya? Ek palde mein napunsakta, ek palde mein paurush, aur theek taraazu ke kaante par ardh satya. ———————————————————————— Before entering the Circular Labyrinth Who or what I was, Is something I don't remember. After entering the Circular Labyrinth, That between the Circle and me is only a life-threatening nearness, Is something I didn't realize. After leaving the Circular Labyrinth, Even if I am liberated from it entirely, It would make no difference to the Circular Labyrinth itself. Whether I die or kill, Whether I get killed or murder someone, This decision could never have been made. When a sleeping man starts walking around after awakening Then the world of dreams is invisible to him afterwards. In that light, which is the light of decision, Will everything be treated equally? On one side of the balance, impotence, On the other side, manhood. Right in between them (tipping the scale ) is a Half-Truth. ———————————————————————— Chakravyuh is a circular (chakra) battle formation (vyuh) mentioned in the Indian epic Mahabharatha. #ardhsatya#ompuri#smitapatil#parallelcinema#poetry#dilipchitre
