Do you know that maiko sleep on a special pillow to protect their hairstyles for a week? Here, “takamakura” (“high pillow”) is presented by maiko Fukuya 😱 Maiko place takamakura against their cheeks and necks. Looks painful! Would you like to try sleeping on such pillow? 😆 Actually, I tend to fold my regular pillows and stack them to make a “takamakura” because I can’t fall asleep without keeping my head high up 🙄😅 I went with one maiko to a hairdresser appointment back in spring. She styled her hair in the “ofuku” hairstyle and it took about an hour... but it was a fantastic experience and I learnt a lot! Sadly, such hairstyle wouldn’t suit me, I think 😅😂

ONIGIRI 🍙 (easy recipe) We all know Onigiri 🍙 right? There is even an emoji for it! LOL! Here is an easy recipe for you to make them at home. 1. Use Freshly Cooked Rice 🍚. 2. Wet Your Hands to prevent the rice from sticking. 3. Salt Your Hands and rub to spread all around. This helps onigiri last longer and flavor it. 4. Give Just Enough Pressure, shape into the typical triangle, ball, or cylinder shapes. You can add lots of flavors or food inside. I’m going to give you a delicious and easy to find one: Tuna Mayo. * 1 canned tuna * 2 tbsp of mayonnaise * ½ Tbsp soy sauce * Mix the ingredients Scoop out a handful of warm rice 🍚 into one hand. Create a small well in the center of the rice. Put some Tuna Mayo inside. Then mold a bit more of the rice with your hands around the well to cover your filling completely. Wrap the onigiri with nori (seaweed). IT’S THAT EASY!!!! 😋 #onigiri#akibaworldmx#japanesefood#ilovejapan#japaneseonigiri#kawaii#traveljapan#japaneserecipe
Well, throughout my 6 years of guiding photography tours in Japan, I was struggling only with this amazing spot in Hakone. Somehow it was always cloudy and mount Fujisan never show up while I was staying here. As Japanese say you always will return back if you didn't see Fuji for the first time. Now I can say it's true! 😀 Danielkordan.com
Japan may not be known for its coffee scene, but there are definitely plenty of spectacular coffee shops hidden in residential neighbourhoods! This cafe (@hoodbyvargas) is tucked away in a little street in Nakatsu, Osaka, and was just outside my Airbnb apartment - perfect for a morning iced latte! If you're looking for a cute stop for a drink, I've made a few videos about my favourite instagram-worthy cafes in Tokyo - link in bio! Maybe I should make an Osaka and Kyoto edition for my next visit? #hijessicaanneinjapan
Omg Japan. Today I was having a pretty stressful day but a mindless stroll around Shinagawa station led me to the discovery of this ultra cute panda cut-out baumkuchen. Apparently it’s not new, but this one comes with a baby panda omg my heart cannot 😭❤️🐼. You totally made my day. That’s Japan for you. Just like its tourism slogan - Endless Discovery. And cute surprises waiting for you at every turn of a corner. ❤️ Also, every bitter moment you experience will be rewarded by a sweet one soon, that’s what I’d like to believe 🥰. #cheesieintokyo#ilovejapan#onlyinjapan
Maiko Koeri and Katsuhana on the Hassaku day (Aug 1), wearing black formal kimono 👘 Katsuhana is now wearing the sakkou hairstyle! She will become a geiko in December 💗 I’ve witnessed her blossoming into more and more confident entertainer. She’s an excellent person to converse with!

Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji is a series of landscape prints by the Japanese ukiyo-e artist Hokusai. These series were a big inspiration for me to photograph the icon of Japan from various locations. This waterfall is one of multiple locations I visit with guests of my photography workshops in Japan. Danielkordan.com #japan#ilovejapan#nikon#gitzoinspires#kawaguchiko#tokyo#osaka#kyoto
It was my third time visiting Japan this year. Starting from snowy villages in January, then fireflies project in June and now I'm back home after wonderful autumn photography workshop. What's next? I'm planning a winter tour in Hokkaido! Japan has certainly a lot of places to discover. Danielkordan.com #japan#ilovejapan#nikon#gitzoinspires#madewithluminar#fireflies
【Chiba】 Tokyo’s neighbor, Chiba prefecture is full of hidden scenic spots! Other than Mother Farm, Tokyo German Village, Noumizo Falls (you can find all of them on #cheesieinchiba), you can also put Yoro Valley (#養老渓谷) on your list if serene nature is what you seek. A gentle waterfall, clear streams, easy trekking trails, beautiful maples in autumn and a hot spring town nearby, the bonus is that this therapeutic getaway is also pretty accessible with trains going directly to Yoro Keikoku Station.
Memories of summer (as it got much colder suddenly in Kyoto) - maiko Asuka dancing “Gion Kouta” mid-July 2019. She was wearing a special firework-shaped kanzashi (hair ornament). One of my favourite photos for sure 🎆🎇 Kyoto’s summer is the most fun time of the year, I think 🌠
