It’s ‘nonsense’ to think that humanity is ever going to actually move to some nearby exoearth, says one of the world’s top planet hunters. However, Nuno Santos, a planetary astrophysicist at Portugal’s University of Porto, remains convinced that within the next decade or so we will be capable of detecting biosignatures of life from an extrasolar Earth. Marlon Brando’s Rolex GMT watch sold for $1.95 million at auction. The rare Rolex Brando wore in the movie ‘Apocalypse Now’ had the interest of many people around the world during the heated 15-minute auction. Brando carved his name in the back nearly five decades ago and opted to wear the watch sans bezel during his role in the movie, despite the filmmakers who wanted him to remove it. Rapper @21savage, a member of the 2019 #forbesunder30 and a judge of this year’s music list, is a “Dreamer”—one of an estimated 3.6 million people living in the U.S. after having arrived undocumented as a youth. Among them are nearly 800,000 who, by meeting any of a number of criteria were approved for President Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA)—an initiative that Trump wants to shut down. Many other @forbesunder30 alumni also grew up undocumented and are now inspiring change to help their peers and elevate Dreamers nationwide. 🔗 in bio for 21 Savage’s cover story and more about the innovative Dreamers.
@gretathunberg is not your typical listee on the Forbes Most Powerful Women rankings. She is not an elected official, a CEO or founder of a company, nor is she a perennial entry on one of Forbes’ wealth lists. She is, however, influential in ways people three and four times her age are not. This year, Thunberg had more unique press clippings than all but two other women on the list, Angela Merkel who ranked No. 1, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who ranked No. 3 this year. Topping our list of The World’s 100 Most Powerful Women is Angela Merkel, who became the first female Chancellor of Germany in 2005 and is now serving her fourth term. Merkel leads a coalition government that has not been popular with voters, facing Brexit uncertainty and growing anti-immigrant sentiment in Europe. ‘Succession’ actor Nicholas Braun will reportedly play Adam Neumann in a WeWork TV series. Braun, who stars as fan-favorite Cousin Greg on HBO’s ‘Succession,’ will play the former WeWork CEO in the limited series about the embattled company. WeWork, which was at one point one of the most highly valued private startups in the U.S., slowly unraveled after rising to the top. Adam Neumann, in particular, has faced criticism for his eccentric management style, lavish expenses (such as a company private jet) and mismanagement that led to the scuttling of the company’s IPO. Braun will also serve as an executive producer on the series. (📸: Tommaso Boddi/WireImage)
