Please have a read below as @vernitez30 shares his thoughts on collecting and his 1815 Tourbillon Handwerkskunst. * Q: Can you offer your two cents on watch collecting? Very often we get tempted when we see a nice watch and tend to delude ourselves that it is the perfect watch and will forever remain so. This is far from truth and our tastes and preferences may change with time. Take your time to understand and appreciate a watch before actually acquiring it; and If resources permit, try not to compromise. Know what you want, and stay focussed. Q: Why the A. Lange and Sohne 1815 Tourbillon Handwerkskunst? I have always considered the Tourbillon to be an impractical and extravagant. Yet, I know I would never be complete without one. For me, a tourbillon should ideally be a time-only classical dress piece from an established manufacture, the tourbillon should be visible in its full glory, and preferably made in a small run. Then..... on the occasion of Ferdinand Adolph Lange’s 200th birthday, Lange presented, this... Although mechanically similar with the other editions, the handwerkskunst edition brings the reference to a whole new level aesthetically. Amongst other things, engravings are hand done, interior angles are unusually sharp, and the regular glashutte ribbing made way for the frosted finish. But most importantly, the star of the show is the finishing on the dial. The black rhodium rosegold dial is tremblage engraved with high-polished relief elements. Yes, the indices are not applied! The end product is an 1815 Tourbillon on steroids, an exemplary example of Lange's renown emphasis on finissage. Q: How did you get your hands on one. By the time I was actively pursuing one, all 30 pieces of the 1815 handwerkskunst were fully allocated. While waiting for one to resurface, I resisted temptations of acquiring other tourbillons. But everything else felt like a compromise, and I couldn’t compromise on a tourbillon. Then eventually an unworn example
