GUYYYYSSS. It’s my first IGTV 🥺 Sarah Tries It: Majordomo Ruby, Nathan and Cindy took me to Majordomo to celebrate my 23rd birthday last Sunday. If you aren’t familiar with the restaurant, it was created by David Chang (THE David Chang, from #uglydelicous, momofuku, etc etc) and is in DTLA. We’re all huge fans and wanted to see what it was all about. If you want to just see my verdict/conclusion skip to the end! Also please leave me feedback on what you liked/didn’t like about my first IG TV. ( oh and please keep sending me “____ Eats” I LIVE for them 😂).
Cooking out in the bush on the open flame is my favourite kind of cooking. When you’re hiking through the wilderness with a backpack, you keep your meals simple. I made Steak fajitas with a beautiful cut of flank from @evkleiner11 at Kleiner Farms!
When I was back in the United States in the early summer I had one of my favorite foods in the world, Chinese. Like is customary, my family and I ordered tons of dishes and shared with each other. One of these dishes was General Tso’s Chicken. I grew up thinking this was authentic Chinese cuisine. When I moved to the Netherlands as a teenager I tried the Chinese food. It was nothing like what I grew up eating. I learned then that American Chinese food is not what people in China are eating. The inspiration for the dish came from a Chinese dish, not having the sweet sauce we love so much. Recipes often change when the people making them move to a foreign country. They are adapted to use ingredients that are available and to appeal more to the tastes of the local people, like in America, we add a few spoons of sugar and getting rid of a lot or these spicy flavors 😅. This is a photo of the General Tso’s Chicken I made tonight for dinner. I double deep fried the chicken, making it super crispy. Then I tossed it and some broccoli with a thick sweet tangy sauce.
While visiting my family in Köln, I took the opportunity to visit some of the places @anthonybourdain ate at. As most of you know he was sort of a big deal for me. One of these places was @oma_kleinmann . Bourdain ate: Schnitzel, which Bourdain describes as “surfboard-sized slabs of veal and pork filled with many wonderful things, dredged in breadcrumbs and fried in magical, magical deep fat. I had the Veal Jäger Schnitzel and it was magical indeed! I expectedly to be heavy and greasy, boy was I wrong, I am not sure how they prepared it but the Schnitzel was spoon tender, the breading was light and flavorful, the mushroom gravy perfection.
