31.7km, 4h+, 2300 cals - longest training run done!! Only 3 weeks away now from the nyc marathon. More importantly, @projectaware needs more of your support. Hey ladies! Want to do something simple and easy for the environment? It is time to re-think your period! An average woman throws away 115 - 135kg of pads, tampons and applicators away in her lifetime. It is estimated that an annual supply of sanitary products creates a carbon footprint of 5.2kg CO2 equivalents. We all need to make better, more sustainable choices. Why not start with something easy, more effective and better for your body? Please consider learning more about re-usable menstrual cups, reusable period pads or panties. There are a lot of hard choices out there...this one is easy! *************************************************** #plasticfreeperiods#riseofthereusables @CitytoSea_ @environmenstrual #takeaction#startwithonething#plasticorplanet#teamocean#earthfocus#naturenow#myocean#protectwhatyoulove#voicefortheplanet
Repost from @abietabilly . I’ve spent the last 10 months working with the incredible community of Sanur Kauh with McKinsey.org, where we’re solving towards self-sustaining recycling systems to minimize the amount of waste sent to landfill or escaping into our oceans. Whilst at it, thanks to you guys I've achieved 47% of my fundraising goal for @projectaware , a nonprofit that is fighting against marine debris all around the world. Please continue supporting me in raising funds for those who work tirelessly towards cleaner oceans and greater awareness. Link in bio. Thank you! #teamocean
MICROPLASTICS ARE A MACROPROBLEM! 💀 • Microplastics have become our biggest enemy. Scientists believe there are more microplastics in the ocean than stars in our galaxy 🌌🤯 • Microplastics not only come from bigger pieces breaking down, many of our everyday products like face washes, body scrubs toothpastes, and microfibers from our clothing are a huge contributor to the issue. 🦠 • Microplastics are everywhere, from our tab water, to our air. An avg person ingests 39,000 to 52,000 microplastic particles per year. ☠️ • Microplastics are now part of our food chain, would you like some plastic with your fish? Don’t worry it’s free! 🐠 • How can you make a difference? 1️⃣ Start by reducing your single use plastic usage! 2️⃣ Avoid purchasing products that contain microbeads! 3️⃣ Buy organic materials! Avoid polyester! Buy less! 4️⃣ Join a beach cleanup! If you see something that don’t belong pick it up! #take3forthesea 5️⃣ Spread the word! Share this post and help us create some awareness 😍 • #cleanthisbeachup#cleanthisbeachupmiami#beachcleanup#cleanup#cleanbeaches#beautifulbeaches#microplastics#plasticpollutes#planetorplastic#ecotips
Day 247. Riddle me this. The other day, way out on a point, I found two zip ties attached to a piece of what reminded me of corn husk all tangled in seaweed in the wrack line. I took a photo and stuck the whole thing in my bag. After walking a little farther, we stumbled upon a decomposing Ocean Sunfish (Mola Mola) that had been there a while. At first it looked like an elephant, but as those are not common around these parts, I decided it was a Sunfish. It’s skin was like leather, and I realized that what I’d found earlier was some of it’s cartilage. At the body was another zip tie through another piece of the cartilaginous tissue that I removed before I realized what it was. (It was the same neon green, so I saw it, grabbed it, and then was like, Woah! What the heck is this, an elephant?) 3 zip ties right through the cartilage, like the two shown. Anyone have any ideas how that could come to be? I just can’t make it make any sense at all in my head. The body was not on an area of the beach that is used much and is only accessible by ORV and then by foot. It didn’t show any sign of being disturbed (other than a few of its bony bits like the pieces I found in the wrack line nearby, but it was mostly intact). The rangers were unaware of the body when we brought it to their attention and it was not recently deceased. (any ideas @ziptiezoe?) 3 pieces of plastic today. 2 minutes. #ayearofplastic#capecod#capecodbeachcleanup#careforthecapeandislands#takecarecapecod#2minutebeachclean#stoptheplastictide#teamocean#stopusingsingleuseplastic#ziptiezoe
