[Quick #review] Evidence of the affair by Taylor Jenkins Reid : I read this short but emotionally packed story because of the author. I heard a lot about her early 2019 and her novel The seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo which was a huge success (I plan on reading it too). Anyway, the topic for this short story wasn't exactly one that interested me much but overall, I found myself enjoying it. It's not just a story about betrayal but also about hope and going forward despite everything standing in your way even yourself. @tjenkinsreid . . . #shortstory#contemporary#taylorjenkinsreid#evidence#affair#bookreview#bookcover#vendredilecture#livtmoi#booklover
❓QOTD: Has a book you loved received low ratings from other readers?❓ . . I first read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo last year, and it was my gateway drug into the world of Taylor Jenkins Reid! I was absolutely engrossed in this book - although Evelyn did some horrifically manipulative things as she climbed to the top of the Hollywood scene, I couldn't help but love her. An iconic sex symbol who was unafraid to go after what she wanted and would stop at nothing - including seven marriages - to get it, Evelyn was anything but simple. Someone you could both hate and admire, who was unapologetic about what she wanted but was terrified to tell the world her truth, readers see the good, the bad, and the ugly of both Evelyn and Hollywood, and are kept on the edges of their seats as they do so. Bottom line, I loved this story; so when I was given the opportunity to choose a book and lead my monthly book club, I knew this was the book. Reading it a second time, I was pulled into the story even more, and I was hopeful others were too! Meeting on Wednesday, I was both excited and nervous to hear what everyone thought, and shockingly, Evelyn's story left my book club starkly divided! While many of us were pulled into Evelyn's rollercoaster of a life and couldn't get enough, several members felt the story was shallow, the characters were horrible people they couldn't relate to, and if it weren't for book club, they wouldn't have continued reading. It was so interesting to hear other points of views and perspectives that differed so much from my own, and ultimately, I think hearing those thoughts allowed me to see more aspects of Evelyn and this book. That is the beauty of book club, and I'm really glad we all got to experience this story together! Hope you have a wonderful weekend, friends!!!

🌻 BOOK REVIEW 🌻 . Daisy Jones & The Six aka The True Story of Fleetwood Mac (just kidding, kinda). This was a book that I saw all over bookstagram this year and knew I wanted to read but was hesitant to jump on the bandwagon. I've been hurt too many times. . . It started off a tad slow for me but once I hit page about page 50, I was all in. Or maybe it was when the author mentioned Carole King's, Tapestry album, it is one of the greatest albums of all time. The story kept building and becoming more tense until it came to a conclusion that I wanted and needed from it. . . I felt so immersed in the 1970's music scene, a scene I've imagined myself in more than once throughout my life. Growing up and being fed a steady diet of Creedence Clearwater Revival, T-Rex etc, I always wanted to be Carole King's, Carly Simon's and Stevie Nick's friend/backup singer (I can't sing but that's neither here nor there). . . I liked the documentary style of writing. I understand other reviews that said it felt like a VH1 Behind the Music series. With a multiple POV book, I thought this was a unique and effective way to get each character's story and perspective on different events without the book being too long or overwhelming. I don't think the book could have had so many characters if it wasn't written this way. Also, kudos to the fact that there were soo many characters and I never got tired or confused trying to keep them all straight. . . Speaking of the characters, they are what made me really like this book. They were complex real humans with real battles and layers to breakdown and observe. Through them we saw love in all its forms, relationships and all their complexities, passion for the music, each other, art etc. Like I said, immersive. To be in Billie's head was a trip. . This was a solid book, nice bit of nostalgia and I'm glad I picked it up. Now excuse me while I go play Bob Dylan and The Kinks on repeat. 🎶 Hey Mr. Tambourine Man 🎶 (To see the full review,
“She had written something that felt like I could have written it, except I knew I couldn't have. I wouldn't have come up with something like that. Which is what we all want from art, isn’t it? When someone pins down something that feels like it lives inside us? Takes a piece of your heart out and shows it to you? It’s like they are introducing you to a part of yourself.” - Favorite passage from one of the best books I read in summer 2019. - #daisyjonesandthesix#bookquotes#taylorjenkinsreid#bookpic#bestbooksof2019#readabook
Read my @goodreads review here: “⭐️⭐️⭐️The 7 Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I enjoyed it- I just didn’t love it. Evelyn Hugo, aging movie star with 7 marriages behind her, wants to tell all about her life, including the controversial parts she kept hidden in order to protect and further her career. 🎵Seems to me I’ve heard this song before, it’s from an old familiar score, I know it well that melody...🎵This is not a new story- there have been books and movies, memoirs and tell-alls many times. I wonder if those who rate this 5 stars have read any of the other books or seen any of the movies? The author works hard to inject “modern themes” (such as explaining the difference between bisexual women and lesbians) into Evelyn Hugo’s hidden life, but it’s still the same old story. I’d say it’s a good beach read when one doesn’t want to think too deeply, just enjoy a fast, tiny bit salacious read.” #readandbenice#taylorjenkinsreid#thesevenhusbandsofevelynhugo#reading#books#hollywood
New Fiction Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid Everyone knows DAISY JONES & THE SIX, but nobody knows the reason behind their split at the absolute height of their popularity . . . until now. Daisy is a girl coming of age in L.A. in the late sixties, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it’s the rock ’n’ roll she loves most. By the time she’s twenty, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things. Also getting noticed is The Six, a band led by the brooding Billy Dunne. On the eve of their first tour, his girlfriend Camila finds out she’s pregnant, and with the pressure of impending fatherhood and fame, Billy goes a little wild on the road. Daisy and Billy cross paths when a producer realizes that the key to supercharged success is to put the two together. What happens next will become the stuff of legend. The making of that legend is chronicled in this riveting and unforgettable novel, written as an oral history of one of the biggest bands of the seventies. Taylor Jenkins Reid is a talented writer who takes her work to a new level with Daisy Jones & The Six, brilliantly capturing a place and time in an utterly distinctive voice. #newfiction#newbooks#daisyjones#daisyjonesandthesix#taylorjenkinsreid#duncanpubliclibrary#dpl#bookvideo
❝It’s always been fascinating to me how things can be simultaneously true and false, how people can be good and bad all in one, how someone can love you in a way that is beautifully selfless while serving themselves ruthlessly.❞ — taylor jenkins reid, the seven husbands of evelyn hugo ____________________ I realized that I don't talk enough about this book even though I absolutely adore it. If you haven't read 'The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo' yet, you should do so immediately. Back when it came out, the hype was big and it kinda put me of. Thank god I came around and decided to read it. BECAUSE THIS BOOK IS AMAZING! The writing, the characters, the plot. Just everything. Evelyn Hugo is a fucking icon and basically everything she says is pinterest quote material. I actually have a full (spoiler-free) review in my blog. If you're interested, just follow the link in my bio and you should find it somewhere on my blog.
Using my reading journal* to capture a rock and roll read. . Tea was definitely not Daisy’s drug of choice. Wouldn’t you agree? . The cover grabbed me the first time I saw it at the @parkcitylibrary this summer. When I read the inside cover, I knew I needed to read it and immediately added my name to the @dekalblibrary wait list. . So good! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I really liked how @tjenkinsreid set up the book interview transcript style. Warren made me laugh. Daisy had me rooting for her to get a grip on her lifestyle. How is Camila so wise, so chill? And Karen? She’s badass.. . The story pulled you right in on every page. You are right there in the action. Perfect. So rock and roll. . *interested in a reading journal of your own? Click on the link in the profile to order your own.
