I should be reading my book club book (we meet this weekend), but instead I started TWICE IN A BLUE MOON by Christina Lauren. Sometimes you just have to do what the heart wants. I’m enjoying it so far and am eager to see how the story progresses! Are you a CLo fan? Do you have a favorite book by them? About TWICE IN A BLUE MOON: Sam Brandis was Tate Jones’s first: Her first love. Her first everything. Including her first heartbreak. During a whirlwind two-week vacation abroad, Sam and Tate fell for each other in only the way that first loves do: sharing all of their hopes, dreams, and deepest secrets along the way. Sam was the first, and only, person that Tate—the long-lost daughter of one of the world’s biggest film stars—ever revealed her identity to. So when it became clear her trust was misplaced, her world shattered for good. Fourteen years later, Tate, now an up-and-coming actress, only thinks about her first love every once in a blue moon. When she steps onto the set of her first big break, he’s the last person she expects to see. Yet here Sam is, the same charming, confident man she knew, but even more alluring than she remembered. Forced to confront the man who betrayed her, Tate must ask herself if it’s possible to do the wrong thing for the right reason… and whether “once in a lifetime” can come around twice. (Just a disclaimer that I was gifted this copy, but not by the publisher.)
Wishing I was back @thevintagenola today reading a book, enjoying an amazing cup of coffee and a stuffed beignet. But then again that is how most of my Mondays start. Trying to beat back those Monday Blues with a little romance. Did you read Fix Her Up? Did you love it as much as I did? Well Love Her or Lose Her is the second book in the Fix Her Up series. All of your favorite characters return and a few new ones are introduced. Let me just tell you this book is just as steamy if not more so than Fix Her Up. All the little 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. I am also here to warn you that if you had a problem with all the baby girls being thrown around in the last book that doesn’t stop in this one. This one Dominic likes to throw around Honey Girl. Honestly all the honey girls may have been my only problem with this book. I didn’t mind the baby girls in the last book but all the Honey Girls kind of annoyed me. I did love that Rosie was trying to take control of her life. She was really trying to become the woman she was meant to be. Both Dominic and Rosie had communication issues that got them into the tough situation they found themselves in but I loved that they were willing to work on it. Pick this one up if you like all the steam. Pick this one up if you like second chance romance. Pick this one up if you like to read books in a series because you fall in love with the characters. I can’t wait for book 3 because it sounds like a hate to love trope. It’s going to be steamy because that is just how Tessa rolls. Now tell me how are you beating the Monday Blues?
@gallerybooks #gallerypartner Thank you for this gifted copy of Twice in a Blue Moon! . 🌙 Do you give second chances? I’ve been burned and I’ve been known to hold grudges.. . 🌙BOOK REVIEW #77 | #lauralovesreviews ★★★★☆ . 🌙WHAT I LOVED/THOUGHT: So what can I say about 𝙏𝙬𝙞𝙘𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝙖 𝘽𝙡𝙪𝙚 𝙈𝙤𝙤𝙣 that hasn’t been said already? Well for starters, I loved it just as I’d hoped. The hype was there, and I’d seen mixed reviews of it, so I tried to go in with an open mind. . I can see how die hard #clo fans were hoping for more steam, but for a second chance romance, this sweet storyline went above my expectations. For my bitter, unforgiving, grudge-holding-self, it made me reflect on how I handle relationships. . I think this is the perfect read for those romance lovers, family-dysfunction lovers, first-love-fanatics, or for those just looking for that novel that brings emotion. Christina Lauren have truly honed the craft of developing characters that bring heart, soul, love and all the emotion!
. . This month’s #happypengwynbookclub pick was a lot different from our usual pick, but @happygolovelysleeves and I wanted to choose something we knew we could read quickly! And man, this book flies by. Although this isn’t my favorite of their books, Twice in a Blue Moon really is a unique twist on that second chance love trope that we all love to hate. I genuinely was happy with this book, and outside of a few small complaints, think it’s one that I won’t be forgetting about anytime soon. Sam and Tate met in London while on vacation with their respective grandparents. Each night, to escape the grandparents, they would meet in the hotel’s garden and spent the time getting to know each other and staring at the stars. They quickly fall in love (much like teenagers do!) and when Tate confuses her deepest secret to Sam, she feels safe. But then adam goes AWOL and her secret is leaked to the press, thrusting her life into the public spotlight. Fast forward 15 years, and Tate is a budding actress headed to film her newest movie with her ultra movie star father...but when she gets there, Sam is the screenwriter and it brings all of the love and hurt and trust to the surface. The resolution and redemption for the second chance love felt a bit rushed and half baked to me, but it wasn’t entirely unsatisfying. It’s almost as if this book could have used another 150 pages. Or an epilogue. Actually, I demand an epilogue. Maybe in the form of a news expose?! @christinalauren can you hook us up? PLEASE? I did really love the younger versions of Sam and Tate and then the secondary characters who shaped their lives were pretty great. The movie set and the movie script (which we get parts of) were phenomenal and really made the whole thing unique. Definitely give this one a try and tell me what you think! It’s still got the HEA and angst that we love so much of when it comes to CLo, but it’s just not my favorite now that I’ve read Josh + Hazel. Tell me
CLOSED 🎉 Review and GIVEAWAY! 🎉 [partner | @gallerybooks] Christina Lauren is one of those #bookstagrammademedoit author finds and have recently read all of their standalone books. I'm a huge fan and my favorites are The Unhoneymooners and Love and Other Words. Twice in a Blue Moon didn't make it to my favorites by them but I loved the first part of the story and really liked that most of this was set on a movie set and I love atmospheric books. I felt like this could be improved by alternating timelines or a second POV. But, I'm still a ride or die CLo fan and super excited for The Honey Don't List next year. 💬 Do you like Christmas romance books/novellas? ⠀⠀⠀ I’m an unapologetic fan of Christmas romances. Be it books, novellas or Hallmark Christmas movies. I can’t get enough of them. But, I also typically need to wait until closer to the holidays to begin reading them. I’ll be making an exception this year for @susannahnixauthor’s Maybe This Christmas, however. It sounds absolutely AMAZING and I’m in love with this cover. #maybethischristmas releases October 22nd and it’ll be just 99¢! This novella has all the things I love so much in a holiday romance (or any romance, honestly): childhood friends, second chance romance, small town setting AND ON CHRISTMAS? All the grabby hands for this one! ⠀⠀⠀ 𝐁𝐋𝐔𝐑𝐁 ⤵️ When best friends Alexandra and Lucas share a first kiss on Christmas night their senior year of high school, it feels like the best years of their lives are ahead of them. ⠀⠀⠀ Then Alex goes off to college, and Lucas stays behind to work at his dad’s construction business in the small beach town where they grew up. Life, as they say, happens. And somewhere along the way these two high school sweethearts find they don’t have as much in common as they once did ⠀⠀⠀ Lucas’s life is on Beaufort Island, and Alex is all about getting away and moving on. So he makes one of the hardest decisions of his life and lets her go. ⠀⠀⠀ But every year when Alex comes home for the holidays, fate conspires to reunite the two former lovebirds on Christmas Day. Year after year, through good times and bad, Lucas and Alex meet up, catch up, and reconnect on the anniversary of their first kiss. ⠀⠀⠀ Is it too much to hope that one year they’ll find their way back to each other permanently? ⠀⠀⠀ Maybe even this Christmas. ⠀⠀⠀ 😍😍😍🤗🤗🤗 So. Good. Right? ⠀⠀⠀ #kimberlyfayereads#ireadromance#bookaddict#readromance#romancereader#unapologeticromancereader#booksofig#bookish
💬 Which August book releases are you most excited for? . It’s heeeerre!! Happy Release Day to #sayyoustillloveme by @katucker_! 🎉 If you’re into second-chance romances, you’ll definitely want to grab this one today! I’m currently buddy-reading it with @beccasbookishlife and it’s SO GOOD!! K.A. Tucker never disappoints. 🤩 . Thank you to @atriabooks for gifting me this copy! 💕 ________________________________________________________ 📖Summary: Life is a mixed bag for Piper Calloway. On the one hand, she’s a twenty-nine-year-old VP at her dad’s multibillion-dollar real estate development firm, and living the high single life with her two best friends in a swanky downtown penthouse. On the other hand, she’s considered a pair of sexy legs in a male-dominated world and constantly has to prove her worth. Plus, she’s stuck seeing her narcissistic ex-fiancé—a fellow VP—on the other side of her glass office wall every day. Things get exponentially more complicated for Piper when she runs into Kyle Miller—the handsome new security guard at Calloway Group Industries, and coincidentally the first love of her life. The guy she hasn’t seen or heard from since they were summer camp counsellors together. The guy from the wrong side of the tracks. The guy who apparently doesn’t even remember her name. Piper may be a high-powered businesswoman now, but she soon realizes that her schoolgirl crush is not only alive but stronger than ever, and crippling her concentration. What’s more, despite Kyle’s distant attitude, she’s convinced their reunion isn’t at all coincidental, and that his feelings for her still run deep. And she’s determined to make him admit to them, no matter the consequences. ________________________________________________________ #katucker#secondchanceromance#romancebooks#currentread#amreading#atriabooks#onthebedproject#cozydecor#cozyvibes#hyggehome#librariesofinstagram#bookcommunity#instaread
Look what I just uploaded ... ;) This one's a stand-alone, so if you need something to read while waiting for "The Secret Girl" (uploading tonight) or "In the Arms of the Elite" (by the end of the month), this has no cliff-hanger, one complete story in this long 124,000 word novel.
BOOK REVIEW: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 I just loved Say You Still Love Me! KA Tucker is one of my favorite authors and her latest novel did NOT disappoint. I am such a fan of the second-chance romance, and I always enjoy a childhood love story. This one was SO sweet, gave me all the warm & fuzzies, and honestly, I would’ve loved 100 more pages of this story! The summer camp setting makes this one the perfect summer read. I thoroughly enjoyed this one & truly didn’t want it to be end - thanks @atriabooks for sending me a gifted copy. Out tomorrow, I would definitely recommend to romance fans. (PSA: This one is light on the steam/PG-13 for those who don’t like the fire) Synopsis below! And yes, I do love a good soak in the tub but it doesn’t happen as often as I’d like #momlife . “Life is a mixed bag for Piper Calloway. . Hey there! Happy almost-but-not-nearly-close-enough Friday. I’m back on that #nameathon train today to talk about my favorite trope. Or, we’ll, ONE of them because I am a tropeaholic, friends. Friends to lovers, enemies to lovers, forced proximity, fish out of water, marriage of convenience ... I LOVE so many of them. But, second chance romance will probably always be my favorite. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I know second chance romances tend to be on the angsty side and I’m typically not big on angst but the heart wants what it wants! And mine wants second chance romance. Now, I’m also fairly picky about them and sometimes I can be super hard on the characters if the reason they’re not together any longer seems stupid. Which probably isn’t fair, but I am who I am. 🤷🏻♀️ I’m cool with an extended separation and it’s FINE if the characters dated someone else. I just don’t want to see it on the page. 😂 Is that unreasonable? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I didn’t feel like putting together another stack, but I certainly could’ve given the number of second chance romance books on my shelves. Instead, I decided to highlight a recent favorite book in this trope – @katucker_’s Say You Still Love Me. This book was unique in that we saw Piper and Kyle in TWO timelines – when they fell in love the first times as kids and when they were reunited as adults. Oh it’s just so freaking good. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 💬 What’s YOUR favorite trope? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #kimberlyfayereads#ireadromance#bookaddict#readromance#romancereader#unapologeticromancereader#booksofig#bookish#bookobsessed#mybookishlife#katucker#sayyoustillloveme#secondchanceromance
Unpopular opinion here… but I didn’t think Twice in a Blue Moon was as great as lots of other people seemed to think. I haven’t read a Christina Lauren book I haven’t liked yet, and while I didn’t dislike this one, it left me feeling like it wasn’t enough. I’m going to try to make this review specific without being spoilery as much as I can. I am not usually a fan of a story line where characters sleep with each other after barely knowing each other…not in a romance, even if it is a second chance romance story line. I really liked that the details of the story were different, with Tate being a celebrity and seeing kind of the fun behind the scenes movie filming stuff thrown into the story. But I felt that there was a lot of the story that was unresolved for me, like I wanted more out of the ending instead of it just…ending…I wanted more between her and her father, I wanted more about what happened with the filming/release. I just was left wanting. And I really hate to say this, but I REALLY don’t want to start worrying that the new Christina Lauren books are getting pumped out so fast just to get books out that the story starts lacking… Twice in a Blue Moon by Christina Lauren ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Synopsis: Sam Brandis was Tate Jones’s first: Her first love. K.A. Tucker was just that author, and Say You Still Love Me was that book. I don't think I realized just how much Piper and Kyle's second chance romance would get to me. These two worked their way under my skin and into my heart. ⠀⠀ Jumping back and forth between present day and the past can be messy, but it was far from that in this one. I loved how the details of Piper and Kyle first falling in love at Camp Wawa were woven in with their second chance. I can't think of how this book would possibly work any other way. Basically I lived for the bits I would get from both time periods in each chapter. It made me feel as though I really was right there beside them, part of the story. ⠀⠀ I absolutely loved the romance in Say You Still Love Me. From the first love at Camp Wawa and the albeit more complicated second chance in present day, I was 1000% in. I couldn't get enough of Piper or Kyle (together or separate!) or the secondary characters, for that matter. While present day Piper and Kyle (understandably) had their issues to work through, Camp Wawa Piper and Kyle just warmed my heart. Is there anything as pure as first love? ⠀⠀ This one was an absolutely joy to read. I adored the characters. Piper was especially wonderful. Present day Kyle got a pretty healthy dose of side eye initially, but it wasn't long before he had me swooning all over the place. I never
Did you see @reads_romance and I announced the 💋 Kissing Book Club 💋 theme and buddy read selection last week? If you missed it, no worries. You still have plenty of time to join us and get to reading. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The theme for October is Second Chance Romance, which is undoubtedly one of MY personal favorite tropes. I LOVE seeing couples who have separated for one reason or another get another chance at their HEA. I love the longing and the fact the characters already have some amount of history (for better or worse) so second chance romance never feels instalove-ish. Books in this trope can tend to be a little on the angsty side, but as long as it’s not too overwhelming (and as long as I don’t have to watch any on-the-page relations between the hero or heroine and another person), they’re like catnip for me. ⠀ Unlike last month, I’ve not yet read our buddy read pick for October. It’s been on my TBR for ages. I mean, I even bought a print copy and had it signed when I met Claire at a signing a few years back. I’ve heard wonderful things about this book and I can’t wait to get started on it. Will you be joining us? If you’ve not yet done it, peep the Goodreads group link in my profile and join the club. We’ll chat about the book as we read, but we’ll also be sharing some of our fave second chance romance recs, too. Oh, it’s worth mentioning this month’s book is available on both #kindleunlimited and #audibleescape, too. ⠀ 💬 Do you enjoy second chance romance?
