One of my last runs before I do a company 5K on thursday. Lots of epsom salt baths, foam rolling, hydration, and allergy meds until then. The 5K will be at memorial park and everytime I run there, I get terrible allergies (must be the oak trees). Here is my goal for the 5K. If I can get close to a 27 minute 5K I will be super stoked. So cross your fingers for me.
Cue autumn leaves falling all around me for the standard basic fall trail pic. Hello? Prop team? No? . Welp, that didn't work out the way I imagined, **overly on point transition into this next statement** kind of like how my race season isn't going to work out the way I had imagined either. (too much?) . So, I've got 2 more races left in this epic season that started with my very first marathon at @illinoismarathon, then went to a hell-fully earned half-marathon PR at @runrocknroll in Chicago, and added a twist after finding out I need to undergo a series of leg surgeries thus basically crashing & burning as I round the corner to @hotchocolate15k and @indymonumental happening in the next few weeks. My training has been getting more & more challenging and not for good reasons and last week I finally gave in and did what I've known had to be done for a while now: I downgraded what was going to be my 2nd marathon attempt to what will be my 5th half-marathon. Coach @rankinerik is relieved; I am thoroughly disappointed. I've been over all of the logical reasoning about my health, my happiness, living to fight another day, and all that... but it still sucks. It was a lofty goal for me to take on 2 marathons my 1st year out but I had such high hopes. The doctors say that after the surgeries I'll be back stronger than ever but I wanted to end the year the way I started it, with a 26.2 celebration. I've been grappling with this for weeks and in a motivational slump ever since I hit the downgrade button, but with my running family starting to talk about our upcoming races, I can't help but get excited. I've been so upset and frustrated with my body and with running the past few months but that's not going to make anything better and I really do love running. So that's what I plan to do for these last few race season weeks & these last 2 races: . JUST. LOVE. RUNNING. . I'm not planning any PR attempts. I'm not setting any time goals or reaching for anything outside of what
