Meet Bill Lewis, my high school track coach. . Bill Lewis, for those of you who do not know, is the father of Olympian Carl Lewis who won 9 Olympic gold metals one Olympic Silver medal and 10 World Championship medals. Carl was a senior when I was a freshman. . Coach Lewis never gave up on me. He must have seen some talent in my running, despite my extreme lack of confidence. There were times when I was too nervous to even show up for a track meet me Coach Lewis would have to call me at home to get my mother to convince me to go run. . Coach Lewis could have kicked me off the team or have up on me. But he never did. By the time I was a sophomore in High School, our 4x400 team (3 sophomores and one junior) was ranked 3rd in the nation, running a blistering 3:18.4. . Soon Coach Lewis would have is running against collegiate athletes as high school athletes, sometimes placing. He always knew we could do more than what we thought we could. We would later run at the High School Olympic Invitational Indoor meet winning the 4x400 in front of a crowd of over 10 K people at the Philadelphia Spectrum. . It was that one day at the Penn Relays, running in front of over 100k people that the coach from West Point (invited by my cousin, Lintz Rivera, a NY State Hall of Famer in the women's 400m-54secs) saw me run. . That sealed it for me. Good grades, good athlete and a nomination from a Congressman got me into West Point. . Non of this would have happened if it had not been for Coach Lewis never giving up on me. I owe so much to him. . Now I pass on his legacy through my coaching at Oswego High School. And as fate would have it, we've broken many school records in the 400 and 4x400, and one of my athletes even went on to run for Army at West Point.. . You never know the impact you are having on someone's life. . #track#trackandfield#400m#4x400#oswegoboystrack#inittowinit#runfast#period#thought#inspiration#quote#quotesdaily#thoughts#advice#instagood#followme

He did it! Parker Stinson (@_parker_stinson_) has been open and honest about his goal of breaking 2:11 in the marathon for two years. Last weekend at the Chicago marathon he turned that vision into a reality. He was one of 10 American men to break 2:12 in a phenomenal group performance. In this episode, we talk about all that, how it feels to get the monkey off his back, finally pacing the full 26.2 the way he dreamed, and more, in Parker’s typical and wonderful frankness. • 🎧 The show is available on nearly all podcast apps, including Spotify, and the Apple Podcast link is in my bio 🎧 • This episode is sponsored by @InsideTracker.
