⚠️ HONEST POST ⚠️ - 🏃🏼♀️This is me every day of the week- hair up in a bun, sweaty, going to or leaving the gym & constantly trying to be better than I was yesterday 🙏🏼 - 💭 Not many of you may know this but the earlier part of 2018 was probably the hardest year of my life- depressed, surviving on zero self-confidence and a trying to get a grip on life 🥵 - 💡I’ve always had a passion for health and fitness but never truly realized how much of a champion I am until this year. I’m taking it day by day, reminding myself that my only competition is ME 🙋🏼♀️. Thank you to those (you know who you are 😋) for pushing me out of my comfort zone so I can continue reaching my full potential. 🧡💛💚 - 🙅🏼♀️ Never let anyone or anything stop you from reaching your goals- the power is in your hands 🌟
On therapists being human (Yes, really) Having experienced the therapeutic journey myself, I am familiar with the angel or demon projection we give to our shrinks as we navigate our shit. So when a young client told me my life was perfect this week, I couldn’t help but laugh. It gave me great pleasure to explain that I experience the same difficulty and suffering as all of us folks - and that I practise managing challenges using the exact same techniques and tools I’m giving to others. There’s a snobbery around where you train in the therapeutic community, which is probably why I drove 6 hours for every lecture I attended at Oxford. But the truth is that I use my own experience significantly more than I use that training. I know what it’s like to have clinical depression, anxiety and yes - the imposter syndrome! And I know the journey I took to overcome it and subsequently prevent it’s return. And THATS powerful medicine. This is my dog, Jub Jub. Unhealthy emotional behavior, can greatly impact all aspects of your life . It can hinder your growth, success, and ability to deal with everyday life . So taking good care of your emotional wellbeing is a priority if you want to lead a healthy & successful life . Emotional health takes work. It involves attending to and fine-tuning thoughts, feelings, and behaviors . So how can you actually improve your emotional wellbeing ? - Awareness of your own emotions and thoughts : The more in tune we are to our emotions, thoughts, and behaviors, the more we can take charge of them and the less control they have over us, practicing mindfulness can really help you keeping in check . -Emotional regulation : keeping our emotions in check. We are aware of them, we allow ourselves to feel them, but we don’t get consumed by them. - Perspective reframing :To be emotionally healthy is to be able to look at things in new ways. In reframing, you find the good in situations. - Enforcing optimistic thoughts : While emotional health isn’t forcing positive emotions, it also isn’t about sticking to the negative. Optimism is a component of healthy perspective-taking. As you make these emotional wellness habits a part of your life, you will improve your emotional wellness and your overall ability to perform better in everyday life activities, which will greatly help you achieve much more :) Now, I’d love to hear from you !
