Injuries to the feet can be difficult to manage, especially when we are usually on our feet the whole day which leaves little recovery. Most of the time if no direct trauma has occurred, soles of the feet can cause pain due to poor biomechanics of the foot. Do no mistaken this for “foot posture”. “Posture” is only a problem when the body (or in this case the foot) cannot sustain the movement or position due to weakness or lack of mobility.  Common diagnosis: plantar fascia irritation - some may call it plantar fasciitis.  Submission: none usually.. mainly due to intrinsic weakness of the foot.  Recovery time: 6-8 weeks  Rehabilitation: scrunching up a towel with toes and foot for 1-2x 15 repetitions 3-4x daily ( for this instance spreading the exercises throughout the day is better)  Tip: when inflamed from overuse option of choice would be ice, however after 2-3 days make sure heat is used instead. Make sure the heat and ice is placed within 2-3 layers of towel to avoid damage. [How to start strengthening your back with 1️⃣ simple exercise]⁣ ⁣ ❓Have you worked on releasing and stretching your chest, shoulders and upper back⁣ ⁣ ❓Do you feel better for a short time, but then the tightness, stiffness and pain just comes back⁣ ⁣ Guess what! You may not have a length (tightness, flexibility, etc) problem. You may have a strength problem 🤯⁣ ⁣ As a  culture and society we tend to sit and stand in a slouched position with our shoulders rounded forward and our upper back "hunched". The muscles in our back then become OVERstretched⁣ ⁣ Poor posture and over-lengthening then result in a pain experience where the 🧠 is trying to tell you "something's not right"⁣ ⁣ Banded pull aparts are one of my favorite exercises to help my clients retrain their posture and strengthen their back. Maybe you already do these. If so, I encourage you to check your form!⁣ ⁣ Some common errors I see:⁣ 1️⃣ Bending the elbows - this isn't a bad thing depending on your intent of the exercise, but bent elbows target the external rotators of the shoulders instead of the scapular retractors that we need engaged for good posture⁣ 2️⃣ Arching the low back to get the full range of motion⁣ 3️⃣ Allowing the band to raise above nipple line - if the band is higher than that you will be using compensatory muscles and not benefiting from the intent of the exercise⁣ ⁣ If you would like to find out exactly where your pain experience is originating - are you actually tight or are you really just weak - I would love to chat with you! Hip Flexor Strain Rehab ——- Hip flexors are fairly common in field sports with all the stopping and change of direction. Additionally, playing on wet surfaces can lead to slipping and straining the hip flexor. Simply put, when addressing a muscle strain, the priorities are decrease the pain, gradually reintroduce load and monitor stress levels. Suffering a set back when dealing with a muscle strain can happen as people tend to “feel” good and go back to full activity when the muscle isn’t ready for that demand. ——- Here are a few exercises I like to use in the mid phases of hip flexor rehab. The key is to keep them relatively pain free (I usually say soreness is ok) 1️⃣ Banded wall marches - using the band to strengthen the hip flexor in a position that mimics running. 2️⃣ Banded wall marches - same as above but with increased speed which places more demand on the hip flexors. 3️⃣ Cable resisted hip flexor - really focusing on loading the hip flexor with resistance. I just ran a Marathon today.  Ok by ”Marathon” I mean ran my own personal Marathon which was a 5K... If you told me 5 months ago that I would run 5K (all at once) I would call you f’ing cray cray.  I never ran anything more than 200m consequtively and the last time I did that I think I was in grade 8.  So it's like with every stride I took I was breaking my own personal record and I feel like I achieved the impossible (for me). I was feeling a lot of things - mostly like I was not good enough.  But once I started running... I realized that today no matter what happened in the race... I was pushing myself in a way that I thought I would never be capable of.  And today... I (me, myself, numero uno...) was a little bit better than I was yesterday.  I didn’t stop running.  Not that it matters if I did... but I persevered when I thought I was going to collapse.  And I crossed the finish line (and yes I totally cried like a baby). So I know I am literally capable of ANYTHING (and believe me I was chanting that to myself for the last km so I didn't collapse). So me message to you is... never sell yourself short or underestimate what you are truly capable of accomplishing.  Whatever race you are running, business you are building, dream you are dreaming and life you are living... it is 100% YOUR journey and wherever you are at it’s ok... if you want it bad enough YOU WILL CROSS THAT FINISH LINE.  People will tell you can do it... people will tell you to slow down and not worry if you walk or don’t finish at all and that’s ok because it’s not about them it’s about you. (p.s. thank you to those who had faith in me)  And no one else can determine what’s possible for YOU.  Just do you.  And be a little bit better than you were yesterday.
