Staff Picks! Our favorite October Spooky Reads. From Victoria, Head of Interlibrary Loans. Salem's Lot by Stephen King. . . When Stephen King’s classic thriller 'SALEM’S LOT hit the stands in 1975, it thrilled and terrified millions of readers with tales of demonic evil in small-town America. 'Salem's Lot is a small New England town with white clapboard houses, tree-lined streets, and solid church steeples. That summer in 'Salem's Lot was a summer of homecoming and return; spring burned out and the land lying dry, crackling underfoot. Late that summer, Ben Mears returned to 'Salem's Lot hoping to cast out his own devils and found instead a new, unspeakable horror. A stranger had also come to the Lot, a stranger with a secret as old as evil, a secret that would wreak irreparable harm on those he touched and in turn on those they loved. All would be changed forever: Susan, whose love for Ben could not protect her; Father Callahan, the bad priest who put his eroded faith to one last test; and Mark, a young boy who sees his fantasy world become reality and ironically proves the best equipped to handle the relentless nightmare of 'Salem's Lot. This is a rare novel, almost hypnotic in its unyielding suspense, which builds to a climax of classic terror. You will not forget the town of 'Salem's Lot nor any of the people who used to live here. . . . . . #staffpicks#salemslot#stephenking#favoritebooks#octoberreads#suspensebooks#thrillerbooks#spookyreads#publiclibrary#librariesofinsta#librariesofinstagram#librarylife#librarylove#eapl#palmerpa#eastonpa#eastonlibrary#eastonpubliclibrary#librarybooks#libraryfun#bookstagram#publiclibraries#lehighvalley #publiclibrariesrock#eaplibrary #booklove#bookcommunity#easton#eastonstaff
Tuesday tech tip: If you’re looking for an image to use in something you’re making, you can use Google Image Search to limit your results to only those that are licensed for reuse. Just select “Tools,” “Usage Rights,” and choose whichever option applies to your situation (e.g. Will you be modifying the image? Is it a commercial use?) Flickr’s image search offers the same feature!
Check out these great pictures that Keith sent us from today's kids craft class at the Mannington Public Library! They created fun nightlights using mason jars and tissue paper. Fun fact: Tuesday is one of the busiest days for library programming county wide. Today our branches hosted: 10 programs, 4 bookmobile stops, and visited 3 outreach locations! We are so thankful to be able to serve the citizens of Marion County! #mymarionwv#manningtonwv#librariesofinstagram
For Week 4 of American Archives Month, we will be highlighting one of the organizational records collections that we received this year. Spartan Communications, Inc. was a local business that ran the local news station, WSPA 7News. Founded in 1947 by Walter J. Brown as Spartan Radiocasting Co., the company began with one radio station and by the time that it merged with Media General in 2000, the company ran 11 television stations across multiple states. This collection consists of six annual reports for the company from the 80s and 90s, the company by-laws, documents related to the company's merge with Media General, and photocopies of various legal documents related to the creation of the company. Organizations, either businesses or non-profits, naturally produce a lot of records that document the history of the organization. Collections consisting of organizational records are extremely important to the archive as they insure that as organizations close, they can be remembered by future generations. If you used to be a part of a now defunct organization and have ownership of their records, please contact the Kennedy Room about possibly donating the records to the library archives. . #americanarchivesmonth#scpl#spartanburglibraries#librariesofinstagram#library#reading#spartanburg#spartanburgsc#librarylife
