Mapping Refugee Spaces // East African camps are usually portrayed as one single unit in humanitarian publications, academia, reports and by the media, despite being established across almost decades in tens of different countries. This map shows seven long-term refugee camps studied on our research website: Nakivale, Kyangwaly, Kayla II, Kakuma I, II, III and IV, Kaziba, Kigeme and Mugobwa. All of these were established between 1958 and 2013. Check out our research site for more info! #refugees#refugeecamp#eastafrica#istandwithrefugeechildren#istandwithrefugees#maps#mapping
Today we share something different. With our work we fight for justice for the people of Moria. And with that for all the asylum seekers in Greece and Europe. But sometimes we want to share other stories as well. Not because one person, group or event is more important than the other, but because we want to stand in solidarity. Even though we might raise awareness for a different cause, we're all fighting for a better world. With sharing stories we want to build bridges and more understanding for one another. What would you do when your children, your family, your best friend or nieces and nephews would be treated inhumanely. If they would be held in a detention center without being given their basic needs? Children in detention centers in America, in refugee camps across Europe, across the globe; the Middle East, Sundan, Bangladesh and the list can go on and on... They all deserve our care and our support. Let's stand in solidarity together today and please raise your voice for at least one of them! 🎥@cnn A 14-year old told us she was taking care of a 4-year old who had been placed in her cell with no relatives. "I take her to the bathroom, give her my extra food if she is hungry, and tell people to leave her alone if they are bothering her," she said. Check the link in our bio for the full story! 👆🏻
The International Coalition, led by the United States, has targeted a mosque in the village of Al-Bagouz in the Syrian province of Deir al-Zour. In a statement published by the coalition through its official website on Tuesday (February 12th), he said that his aircraft targeted a mosque last Monday, which was used by the organization "Islamic State" command and control center in eastern Syria, according to the statement. According to media reports, yesterday, a coalition raid targeted a mosque in the village of Al-Bagouz, resulting in civilian casualties, but the International Coalition did not recognize the targeting of civilians during the raid. In its statement, the Coalition considered that the mosque "lost its protected legal status" provided by the law of armed conflict and international humanitarian law once it was used militarily by the organization of the "State". International humanitarian law requires conflicting parties to distinguish between civilian objects and military objectives under Articles 27 and 47 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, Article 46 of the Hague Convention IV and Article 48 of Additional Protocol I, Avoid targeting vital civilian sites, including places of worship. However, in its statement, the International Coalition considered that the protection "fell" from the mosque of the village of Al-Bagouz, according to the principle of "proportionality" under which international law permits the targeting of city centers, provided that anticipated collateral damage does not exceed the anticipated military advantage (Article 23 of the Hague Convention) . "The mosque was used by elements of the organization to direct attacks against Syria's democratic forces and to prepare car bombs to detonate them in areas," the statement said . @save_ummah @ayeshazara__ . #syria#syrian#ayeshazr#stopgenocide#masque#stopmassacre#syrianchildren#stopbombing#saveummah#eyesonidlib#idlib#savetherest#ummahreports#refugees#syrianrefugees
