Guys...I hope I’m wrong...but I think Fall might have just skipped us here in Montana!🍂 I keep holding out for some late, gorgeous weather! But it’s snowing again... ☃️ Sophia, Bianca and I will just have to settle in! 🙈 Before I had farm animals, winter meant hot baths, cozy sweaters and good books! ❄️ Now, it means making sure everyone is warm and has water in negative temperatures! 😑 Not so fun. Besides Christmas, which I do LOVE 🥰, what else is there to look forward to about winter?? I’m trying desperately to focus on some positives! 🙈

“And Moses said unto the LORD, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue. And the LORD said unto him, Who hath made man's mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the LORD? “ Exodus 4:10-11 This was Moses’s greatest fear. He stuttered and stammered, the words didint seem to come out right and never would he have thought that God would use him as a public speaker. One who would be a leader of thousands. God had plans to use Moses in mighty ways to deliver his people, the Israelites from Egypt. How often do we look at the task at hand or something God desires us to do and believe we can’t do it? We may feel we dont have the wisdom, the understanding, the strength, the boldness, the patience. We may not think we have the qualifications, and we don’t... At least not on our own. What we do have is God and that more than surpasses all that we may think we need. “Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.” Exodus 4:12 The one who created our voice can give us the words to speak. The one who created our bodies can give us the strength. The Creator of the universe can give us the creativity The omniscient one can give us wisdom. Where we lack, He is abundant. In our weakness, He strong. When we are discouraged, He gives us hope. Let’s place our faith in God, that He will be the lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path 🕯. God is enough, and He is all we will ever need.
Beige comforting food at its finest. Porcini risotto with a dash of nutmeg for winter warmth and excellent Parmesan I brought back from Italy. Risotto is one of the first things I ever learnt to cook. I was obsessed with it as a kid. I love the rhythm of it, the set of rules and the constant stirring. It’s a meditative dish to make. Already looking forward to my Arancini tomorrow. There’s such a market these days for quick meals and fast food. But really it’s slow food that we so desperately need. Slow food and proper cooking tells farmers that we value the food they’re creating. So in turn they grow with pride, striving for quality and sustainability. Fast and cheap food signals to farmers that we don’t care... so they only strive for high yields. Which results in fertilisers, treating animals like machines, soil death, pesticides and extinction. Somber note to end - but the thought came to me and didn’t want to shy away from it.
Happy Monday, friends! 🥰 ⭐️Our #homesteaderhaven theme for this week is “INTRODUCTIONS”❤️ I would love to know more about YOUR story, your farm & family. We will feature 4 of you next week!!! . 💃 To get this party started... ⭐️My name is Kipper 👋🏻 I’m a recovering big city girl 👠 , now a thriving mountain farm woman. My heels and handbags are long gone. 🙅🏼♀️ . 👩🏻🌾 These days, I’m in a t-shirt and #muckboots . If it ain’t comfy and can’t get dirty, there’s no good sense in wearing it around here. I would be totally fine never leaving the farm. 🤷🏼♀️ I loathe shopping, unless I can do it at home online in my PJ’s. . ❤️👨🌾My hubby and I have a small farm in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains called #gracehavenfarm, named after one of our rescue dogs, Gracie. 🐮🐴🐶🐔🐝 We have a 5 cows, 2 horses, 12 hens, 2 stands of honey bees, and 5 guineas. They all have big personalities and stories of their own. ❤️ .... 🤩Then, there’s “the groupies” (our 3 dogs + 3 cats) that despite acres to roam, are constantly at our side. 💜 . 🌿Our farm is chemical and pesticide free, and we believe in using sustainable, healing methods of farming and gardening. 🌾 . 🥰We are both winning personal battles with chronic illness through healing foods (Paleo works best for us) and Functional Medicine. 🌳 ✝️ Most importantly, none of this is possible without God. He has blessed us in ways we could never have imagined, and we are forever His. ☝🏻 💜Thank you so much for following us on our journey! 👇🏻 It’s your turn! ❤️ 👉🏻Please follow and tag your hosts in your posts: @themustardseedfarmco @one.grace.filled.life @sassy_feathers_farm @virginia.farm.living and invite a farm friend or 2 to introduce themselves! . #ruralliving#happyfarmily #❤️myfarm #homesteadeverafter#smallfarmcharm#countrysideandfarmlife#theyarejustwee
Local pears poached in red wine infused with warming aromatics. Bay, star anise, clove, all spice and citrus. The wine then reduced into a fragrant syrup to go with some creamy Gorgonzola and toasted walnuts. A favourite dish of mine and so apt at this time of year. Can be made well in advance. Recipe will be on my story highlights.

I’ve been reluctant to cut a door in the back wall of the cabin, but after two years with no settling, I’m confident that the cabin can handle it structurally. Click on the link in my bio to watch the full video
