TRAILER REVIEW: JOJO RABBIT (2019) After watching the latest JoJo Rabbit trailer five times, I need to set free every emotion the clip made me feel. Christ. Directed by the legendary Taika Waititi, the satire reveals its true purpose in a flash. To howl out with laughter, um yes, though the tease suggests something more: an emotional core of a youngster growing out of a set mindset amid the chaos of WW2. Against a powerful backdrop of German Monkees and some lovely David Bowie, the trailer foreshadows a powerful thing of satire that not only rejects the fanaticism of Nazi past, but also that of today. ———————————————————————— All while bringing a charming coming-of-age story to life, as JoJo starts to reject the Fuhrer, even if Waititi largely play him for laughs. Honestly tear-jerking and hilarious, the trailer was a rare surprise from the barrels of Hollywood: something that never ruins the film, while stirring up emotions on its own. With movie legends bursting from the seams of the cast list: Waititi, Johansson, Wilson, Merchant [the list goes on and on], the film will likely be a smash hit with viewers and critics alike. ———————————————————————— Just have faith, Disney. Yet, this should never be the priority. ———————————————————————— With the release of countless remakes, the studio have unequivocally become a hovel for gold shite. Tywin Lannister be proud. When a film is brilliant, the audience will flock to the cinema. And if not, films like JoJo Rabbit will still
In addition to writing and directing his upcoming film “Jojo Rabbit”, Taika Waititi will also be playing the imaginary friend of the young lead character, and the friend just happens to be Hitler. After the first week of shooting back in 2018, he labeled the film as an “anti-fuckface satire” and defended his role as the dictator in the most perfect way possible: “What better way to insult Hitler than having him portrayed by a Polynesian Jew?” I can’t wait to see this movie.
