Probably my favourite book I've read so far this year. I was lucky enough to get an e-arc from Net Galley to read this. But I had to get a finished copy as soon as it was released. I'm excited for the sequel #thedamned coming June 2020 I'm definitely gonna have to reread this before then. #thebeautiful #reneeahdieh #bookstagram #books #newreleased #bibliophile #fivestarread #whatiread #ya #youngadult #fantasy #bookshelf

Do you review books right after reading or is there usually sometime before you get around to writing them? ... I tend to write them the same day but get behind in sharing them here. This review was written a few weeks ago right after I read the book. ————————————————————— 🖤🌹DARKDAWN REVIEW🌹🖤 “‘I am a daughter of the dark between the stars,’ she replied. ‘I am the thought that wakes the bastards of this world sweating in the nevernight. I am the vengeance of every orphaned daughter, every murdered mother, every bastard son.’ Mia leaned forward and looked the man in the eye. ‘I am the war you cannot win.’” ... Damn…I don’t even know what to say or do. Darkdawn wrecked me. Repeatedly. Jay Kristoff is an evil twisted human being, but damned if I can’t quit him. This book was everything it should have been. All that it needed to be. I would not have chosen the way things went, but every word, every scene was right. It was seriously perfect. I am crushed for forever. I give this book all my 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 and my ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️. Might as well since I am now dead anyway. ... Also this is probably my new favorite quote/scene of all time: ... “Fear was Can’t. Fear was Won’t. But fear wasn’t ever a choice. To never fear was to never hope. Never love. Never live. To never fear the Dark was to never smile as the dawn kissed your face. To never fear solitude was to never know the joy of a beauty in your arms. Part of having is the fear of losing. Part of creating is the fear of it breaking. Part of the beginning is the fear of your ending. Fear is never a choice. Never a choice. But letting it rule you is.” ————————————————————— #darkdawn #jaykristoff #jkristoff #kristoff #nevernight #darkdawnreview #booksilove #fivestarreview #fivestarread #recommendedreading #favoritequote #bookreview #bookstagram #bookstagramreview
Love a good murder mystery? _______________________________________ Wow, this was a stunning debut novel. The writing was impeccably executed and kept the reader engaged throughout. A murder mystery novel, that is atmospherically enthralling. _______________________________________ The reader follows along the main character who is tasked with solving a murder that happens at the end of the night. This character will experience the day 8 times all from the perspective/body of a new host. This book is intricately written in a way that will force the reader to be engaged, and not simply a passive read. _______________________________________ I really enjoyed reading this and can't wait to see what other works this author releases in coming years. If you are in the mood for a thrilling murder mystery, check this book out! Perfect fall read. _______________________________________ What fall reads do you recommend? _______________________________________ #thesevenandahalfdeathsofevelynhardcastle #thesevendeathsofevelynhardcastle #the7deathsofevelynhardcastle #murdermystery #clue #fallreads #mysterious #mystery #whodunnit #timejump #debutauthor #stuartturton #favoritebooks #fivestarread #bookrecommendation #bookreview #published2018 #thebookkeepers #masquerade #bookstagram #instaread #bookclubpicks #allhallowsread

"There are a few times in life when you leap up and the past that you'd been standing on falls away behind you, and the future you mean to land on is not yet in place, and for a moment you're suspended, knowing nothing and no one, not even yourself."⁣ ⁣ The Dutch House is a beautiful read - and an incredibly difficult book to describe. This is a character driven novel with such lovely writing. I think it's good to know that coming in and choose to just dive in and let yourself be absorbed in this book.⁣ ⁣ This is Danny's story - and especially the story of his relationship with his sister Maeve. I listened to the incredible audiobook read by Tom Hanks and felt it was the perfect way to take it in. It really felt like listening to someone share his history - and in that way, I also loved the way Patchett moved through time. It isn't strictly chronological - but if I asked you to tell me about your life, you also probably wouldn't tell it chronologically - you might start that way, but something would remind you of a major moment at a different time and it would take you there. And in this way, we wind back and forth through Danny's life. ⁣ ⁣ This book is about Danny and Maeve. It's about our relationships with our siblings. It's about the ways our parents' presence (and absence) shape us. It's about a beautiful old house in the Philadelphia suburbs. It's about the small choices we make and their consequences on our lives. It is all of this - and it is also so much more than this. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟⁣ ⁣ Thank you very much to @harperbooks for the free copy to read and I purchased the audiobook.⁣ ⁣ #thedutchhouse #annpatchett #bookreview #notjustaprettybook #fivestarread #whattoread #whattoreadnext #bookstabuddies📚 #booknerdssharelove #bookshivers

Nicole Fiorina knocked the air from my lungs with this book!⁣ ⁣ This was such an emotional book, so much so I couldn't put it down. It held my attention from beginning to end. You can't help but to connect and fall in love with Ollie and Mia. Ollie captured my heart with his sweet and gentle nature and how he views the world around him. What they go through I felt down in my soul. This book emotionally wrung out me out! I can't wait until the end of the month for the next book!⁣ ⁣ This book could have triggers for some. It does deal with some sensitive subjects. ⁣ ⁣ #staywithme #nicolefiorina #availablenow #fivestarread #bookobsessed #book #books #booklover #bookworm #booknerd #bookaddict #bookaholic #bookish #bookblogger #bookstagram #bookshark #bookcommunity #bookstagrammer #bookreader #amreading #read #reader #reading #readinglist #readersofinstagram #goodreads #igreads  #instabook #bibliophile #heartofabooklover
REVIEW OF NATURALLY TAN ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Tan France is the fashion expert on Queer Eye and easily one of my favorite people on television. He is hilarious, charming, and sassy, and each of these things comes across in his memoir. Immerse yourself in the desolate, mossy warmth of the marshes near Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. In Delia Owens' novel Where the Crawdads Sing, every luscious word bubbles to life. Hear the gulls cry on the beach, feel the warmth of the sand and mud brush your skin, smell the grits sizzling on the stove, and sink into the forgotten places of these marshes. Fall in love and ache for a lonely Marsh Girl, while you spin scenarios when a body is discovered. This stunning and beautiful novel will not disappoint. I have been DYING to share this book with you all! If you’ve followed along with me for awhile, you know that thrillers are not my thing. I read too many of them too close together and they all started to blend into one blobby mess of unreliable narrators and CRAZY TWISTS (spoiler: they’re not that crazy when you’ve read 23 of them in a row). So for me to read a thriller now, it has to have an incredibly unique plot. Check this one out! ⬇️ . . You’re riding in your self-driving car when suddenly the doors lock, the route changes and you have lost all control. Then, a mysterious voice tells you, “You are going to die.” . Just as self-driving cars become the trusted, safer norm, eight people find themselves in this terrifying situation, including a faded TV star, a pregnant young woman, an abused wife fleeing her husband, an illegal immigrant, a husband and wife, and a suicidal man. . From cameras hidden in their cars, their panic is broadcast to millions of people around the world. But the public will show their true colors when they are asked, "Which of these people should we save?...And who should we kill first?" . . I could not have put this book down if my house caught on fire and hot firemen showed up to hose it down. Meaning I COULD NOT put it down. All these people were hiding wild secrets, but even when you found out the secret, another layer would get thrown on top. The idea of having America decide who to kill and who to save also brought up some fascinating conversations around prejudice based on race, religion, and gender. And while I didn’t think the book totally stuck the landing (one twist too far maybe?) I still gave this one a resounding 5⭐️. One of the most entertaining books I’ve read this year! And PS- if you’ve read his other book, The One, there is some crossover action here! . . #booklove #booklife #bookish #bookworm #booknerd #bookobsessed #bookaholic #bibliophile #readersofinstagram #bookpic #bookstagram
👻October 13th👻 Hello everyone! Hope you’re all having a relaxed Sunday, don’t stress you got this! Anyways, today I’m sharing yet another classic. This one is literally one of my absolute favourite books! I have notes in all the margins, it’s a little destroyed but I don’t care it’s just too good! The writing is so easy to read, if you know what I mean when it comes to classics...sometimes the writing style is so unfamiliar you find yourself struggling to read whereas contemporary books are far easier to completely immerse yourselves in. I read this book so quickly, I could not put it down. There are so many twists and turns that you are constantly questioning which I love. The plot is stunning and everything comes back around at the end. I suggest that you also read Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys, which is a kind of prequel to this as well, it is so well done and even though the authors are different you feel they are meant to be. This is one of my absolute favourites and I hope you enjoy it too! If you’ve read it what were your opinions? This is definitely a 5 👻 rating from me!! So my question is this, how is your Sunday going? Have you got any plans? #bookish #bookaddict #classic #horror #thriller #fivestarread #new #booklover #book #bookshelf #reader #reading #read #readaclassic #ghosty #thrillerbooks #bookshelves #favourite #fivestar #qotd #readabook #classicbook #novel #prequel
QOTD: what are your costume ideas for Halloween? I’m seriously considering to dress up this year.🎃 Oh, by the way, this beauty is now available! If you haven’t met the boys of Brayshaw yet then what are you waiting for? You won’t regret it!. If I could give a book more than five stars then it would be this one. I would give the whole series more than five stars. They captured my heart completely. My mind is wired to only talk about these amazing books. To only talk about Maddoc and Raven. I'm obsessed.😍 Obsessed with Reign of Brayshaw by @meaganbrandyauthor You can find the blog tour on my blog (link in bio).📚 ————————————————— Book details: •Title: Reign of Brayshaw •Author: Meagan Brandy •Series: Brayshaw #3 •Genre: New Adult ————————————————— The blurb: “Trust only those who earn it.” A sentiment I follow without direction but holds more consequence than ever before. One decision, five lives, three futures. This is what’s at stake. One night, one choice, four broken Brayshaws. That is where we’re headed. Unless I stop it. I 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 to stop it. 👻October 12th👻 Hey! Hope you’re all having an amazing day!Today I’m sharing with you my current read, Rebecca. I don’t read many classics but own so so many, I always say I will read them eventually but never get around to it. I want to read more of them since the stories are sometimes bonkers... Anyways, I’m really enjoying Rebecca but the one thing I’m finding is that I am asking so many questions about the plot! I’m confused about what is going on simply because I need to know how it’s going to end. The characters are very complex and some weird things are happening. Simply, I need to finish this ASAP so my confusing ideas about the plot can finally be over!! So my question for you today is...do you like classics? What’s your favourite? #bookstagram #books #bookish #book #bookshelf #fivestar #reading #read #reader #fivestarread #youtube #booklover #bookaddict #reads #horror #shortstory #graphicnovel

I finished this gem yesterday and I absolutely adored it. It is very dark and has a controversial plot. This book is not for everybody. This book contains a forbidden romance between a young man and a young girl. A very touchy topic. While I understand this may be hard to read for people, it is important to read these things because these things truly do happen. We should never ignore the bad in the world because how are we supposed to understand and/or prevent these things from happening if we just ignore these subjects. This book is beautifully written and is one of the best books I have read this year. Book Review: Something In The Water By: Catherine Steadman Genre: Psychological Thriller • • Erin, a documentary film maker, and her new husband Mark, an investment banker, embark on a beautiful honeymoon to Bora Bora. On their honeymoon, they enjoy hiking, snorkeling, scuba diving, all the normal things.... that is, until they come across something in the water. • • This book FINALLY got me out of a reading slump. I listened to the audiobook and read it at the same time and I now have an inner voice who is British. I found myself listening to this book while doing literally everything in my daily life. I cannot say how wonderful this book is and I absolutely think it was a perfect thriller to start out October. I absolutely cannot get over how wonderful I thought this book was! • • This book is getting a 4/5 stars. To all my friends: PLEASE READ THIS ASAP. • • Have you read this? All you need to know about this book is that Colleen Hoover wrote it. That’s it. Just buy it. Read it, give it 5 ⭐️ and wait impatiently like me for her next release. ✏️BOOK REVIEW👩‍🎓 No shock here, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 from me and pretty much everyone else. Going in, I knew Tara was raised Mormon in a rural area and didn’t go to public school, so I thought I was prepared for the extreme conservatism and ignorance. I did not expect how far those beliefs would test the Westovers. The many medical emergencies and the violence were shocking not just because they were unexpected but because of the scale and frequency they happened. At first I wanted to see how Tara would make it to college, but once it became clear that wasn’t her hardest struggle, I rooted for her to leave the toxic parts of her past behind — much easier said than done. . . . Reading this made me so grateful for my upbringing. My family prioritized education, which I never realized affects my relationship with them. Going to college was never a question besides figuring out how to pay for it (hiiii, student loans). But beyond that, we share news articles with each other, swap books and have thoughtful discussions. Of course, not all of that has to do with education. Most importantly, we support each other endlessly. . . . If you’re still reading, wow! Thank you! But if you haven’t picked this book up yet, I hope you do. It’s so powerful and well worth your time. . . . #bookreview #educated #tarawestover #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #education #nonfiction #memoir #nonfictionbooks #autobiography #fivestarread

Lanny It's the twilight read of my Booker journey and it's fab! In a word: Parent’s nightmare Genre: Mystery Pages: 207 Synopsis: The effect Lanny, a unique idiosyncratic boy, has on his loved ones (I don’t want to give the plot away) Review: Is this the most popular book on the Booker longlist? From the reviews and posts despairing at it not making the shortlist it definitely seems so! I can definitely see why as it is the most relatable, the main character really grabs hold of your heart and you just want to pull him into a big hug! It’s written in such a clever and simplistic way - it flows so well and I particularly loved the sections which involved the whole village (argh I really don’t want to give too much away, not that it matters but as the publishers haven’t with their synopsis I thought I’d respect that) but honestly, that section was probably the best thing I’ve read in terms of style all year. The only part that I have mixed feelings over is Papa Toothwort, which is some kind of gothic spirit that is angrily interspersed throughout the story. I can see why it’s there as it elevates it from some kind of family drama to a more literary mystery however I was just confused while I read those parts as I didn’t have a clue as to what it was supposed to be doing (particularly the part in the village hall). To try and get a better idea, I did look up what a toothwort is and it’s a parasitic plant which lives on other plants and zaps insects. So now I get it’s inclusion in the story! Although it’s not in the running to be crowned the winner, I think it’ll be ok - it is going to be adapted by Rachael Weisz for the BBC after all! I think it’ll end up being the biggest seller from this year’s award so although it might not get the literary recognition from a few judges, I think it’ll have the last laugh and will the one that’s remembered the most. . . . . . . . . . . . . . #lanny #maxporter #bookstagramreadsthebooker

🌙 book review 🌙 ⠀⠀ This was so cute! I really wasn't expecting much, but I ended up loving this graphic novel. The story was so much fun and I really want to visit my local pumpkin patch now! The characters were diverse and very lovable. I just want to be friends with Deja and Josiah! The illustrations were also amazing. I might need to buy this graphic novel and reread it every year during autumn. Overall, this was a great autumn read! REVIEW OF THE UNHONEYMOONERS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (Nb: I read this book a few months ago, but recently reread it after purchasing a signed copy.) • Olive Torres is the exact opposite of her twin sister Ami in every imaginable way. Most notably, Ami is the luckiest person alive, and Olive...is not. So when everyone at Ami's wedding gets food poisoning except for Olive (and Ami's brother-in-law Ethan), Olive thinks her luck might be changing. Convinced to take Ami's free honeymoon trip, Olive and Ethan travel to Hawaii together despite hating each other. Pretending to be married ends up being much more enjoyable than either of them anticipated, and as they are forced to confront prior misunderstandings, Olive and Ethan find that they might not hate each other after all. • This book is really, really cute! The entire story line is really cheesy, but done in such a fun and sweet way that you can totally forgive the predictability. It's honestly one of its charms. I literally laughed out loud on numerous occasions. Like literally cackling. I forced anyone around me to listen to the latest hilarious scene I read. Olive and Ethan's chemistry and witty banter is legendary. • I had read this earlier this year and only gave it 4 stars, but I can't imagine why. It's definitely a 5 star read for me, which is evident in my willingness to read the book twice within a few months of each other. Definitely a charming, wonderful book. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ #christinalauren #theunhoneymooners #signedcopy #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookworm #booklover #bibliophile #readersofinstagram #instabooks #igreads #mustread #bookblogger #book #books #bookish #read #reading #currentlyreading #glitterandplato #socalbooksta #5starread #fivestarread

You know when there's a story and you need to know what happens but you also don't want it to end. When there are characters whose pain you feel, whose hope and desperation become your own. Who you wish you could help and protect even though you're reading a book and that is not how this works. When it all seems real, and everything slots perfectly into place. That's this book for me. I adored every second of reading it. It's quite possibly my favourite book of the year. @alix.e.harrow is a genius. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 I am aware that this review tells you nothing helpful so if you're intrigued go check out @nils.reviewsit review, it convinced me to buy this!
Vill du hamna i julkänslor? #bokrecension #tvåhjärtanskarameller #sofiafritzson #recex #läsex #bookoutside #bookreview #fivestarread #feelgoodbook #romancebooks #boktips #julbok #jenlovebooksreviews #bookaesthetic
Myself and two lovely ladies who came to bookclub tonight! We had a great time discussing @therealmargaretatwood's The Testaments. I had never read The Handmaid's Tale 🙈 So to get ready for book club I had to read both books. I ended up not starting The Testaments until yesterday morning, giving me less than 2 days to read it lol. Oops. I ended up staying up till 1am this morning finishing it. I totally could have finished today at a normal hour, but I could not put the book down. This was a 5 star read for me for sure. Did anyone else go to @barnesandnoble book club tonight? Pour Judgement by @heather_m_orgeron_author is Live and it is pure perfection. This book had me laughing so hard and swooning at the same time. 🥃Korie Potter’s got goals. Goals that do not include following in her mother’s footsteps. Rock stars and the life of the rich and famous? Yeah… not interested. She likes her heart in one piece, thank you very much. Until a weekend of booze and bad decisions at camp Pour Judgment finds her fake-engaged to country music’s most notorious bad boy, Rhett Taylor, and completely at his mercy. You see, Korie Potter’s also got a dream, and her new “fiancé” just may have the connections to make it come true. 🥃 GOODREADS LINK: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/45161894-pour-judgment PURCHASE LINKS – $2.99 for a limited time! 👻October 11th👻 Hey! Hope you’re all having an amazing day! Today I’m sharing with you an amazing graphic novel by Emily Carrol called, ‘Through the Woods!’ This is one of the creepiest books I’ve read this year so it’s a solid five little ghostly rating! I’ve always loved short stories, with the Bloody Chamber being some of my favourites as well! I heard about this book on YouTube and was obsessed, so had to buy it! The stories are so creepy and the artwork is so intricate you’ll scare yourself with your own imagination. I cannot recommend this book enough if you enjoy creepy shit and amazing artwork! #emmadonoghue ‘s book Akin is a masterpiece! She’s a brilliant writer and her latest novel did not disappoint. This book follows the heartwarming, complex and captivating tale of Noah and Michael. Noah is about to celebrate his 80th birthday with a trip to his home country of France, when he unexpectedly finds himself the temporary guardian of his 11 year old great nephew Michael. The two set off on a grand adventure to learn the truth behind why Noah’s mom sent him to America and stayed in France during WWII. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Emma Donoghue on two of her book tours now. If you ever get the chance to hear her read and talk about her work in person, do it! This was a five star read and I would highly recommend it!
Happy Monday! We made it out to the beach 3 times this weekend, so I'm feeling very thankful this morning 🌊 I hope everyone had a great weekend! • I'm just going to put this out there...Roomies is my favorite Christina Lauren yet. WHAT! Not Unhoneymooners?! Nope. While Unhoneymooners made me laugh, and Love and Other Words made me cry, and Josh + Hazel was cute, and My Favorite Half-Night Stand has my favorite trope, ROOMIES was the perfect balance of everything. My husband is a musician so this storyline definitely appealed to me. The steam was steamy, the emotions were real, the drama had me turning pages. • I've given 4 stars to all the other books I've read by these co-authors, because although I *really* enjoyed them I honestly could have put them down at about 90% and not picked them back up. As soon as the conflict was resolved, I lost interest. Not so here! 5 stars because I was invested the whole time and it was such a great mixture of everything you want in a romance! Happy publication day, @lbardugo and Ninth House 🎉 ✾ And just in time for its publication, I have finished the book! It's a solid 5🌟 from me - the characters, the magic system, the world it's set in, all of it was a pleasure to read about. Plus, it's so refreshing to read a New Adult book (for those who have been living under a rock: Ninth House is NOT YA!) with characters my age - I also started uni at 20, like Alex - and some non-magical concerns that I can relate to. Alex is an amazing main character with so many faults but so many qualities that had me rooting for her. I wish we could meet and be friends, Alex Stern. ⭐ Maybe get a tattoo together 🐍 ✾ I'm pretty sure @acascadeofbooks will be relieved to finally get her ARC back 😂 You are incredible for letting me borrow this gem! ❤️ ✾ ✾ Will you read Ninth House? Book Review: The Chestnut Man 🌰 There is a lot of hype surrounding this book, and it delivered for me. This was a page-turning, at times - gory, and thrilling police procedural featuring great detectives. They’re on the hunt for a serial killer with a gruesome signature and possible ties to the missing daughter of a government official. Despite the high page count, the chapters are super short which helped me with pacing. This was the perfect spooky fall read and as a bonus, it takes place in October. The Chestnut Man gets 5 ⭐️ from me 📖 #bookstagram #thechestnutman #bookreview #pageturner #thriller #octoberreads #pagesandpuppies #booksandbeagles #readingwithdogs #readingcompanion #scarystories #bookrecommendations #fivestarread #horror #bookworm #librarylover #reader #bookish #cozyreads #spookystories #mamabearread
LOVED this book. 🥰 Highly recommend it. It alternates between two concurrent storylines and two completely different lives for the main character, Hannah, based on one decision, one night out with friends. It was interesting reading it right after Dark Matter, too. Similar concepts with parallel universes, etc, but SUCH different books. Both ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ for me, and I know I'll be rereading them both at some point in the future. 😍 #bookstagram #ilovereading #paralleluniverse #bookworm #booklover #bibliophile #taylorjenkinsreid #fivestarread
For so for weeks I would see Readers Recommend this book in #helpnamethatbook on #fb. So I've read few about Arranged marriages and how the guy would screw as many Girls while the "Wife" would sit at home and just wait for her "Husband". Well these Books weren't like that. In Book 1 they get married and have an open relationship which i fucking LOVED. In Book 2 they Discover there feeling towards each other and well talk about Steamy and #changeofpanties. Now finally book 3 oh finally we get the guy that fucking Grovels. Overall I'm so glad i read these books now wonder if Maverick sister gets a book cause i need to know what happens to her. #thewolfandthesheep #thewolfandhiswife #thelonewolf #wolfseries #thewolf #hissheep #arwen #maverick #fivestarread
***Book Review*** Oh my word, this book, you guys... 60 books into 2019, and I may have a new favorite. 😍  It's rare for me to love a read so much that I'm simultaneously saddened by the thought of finishing it, but I also just can't put it down.  This Tender Land is an epic adventure that follows 4 youth who flee the harsh Lincoln Indian Training School after one of them commits a terrible crime.  Traveling by canoe, they slip away under the cover of night with hopes of reaching the Mississippi River and eventually a place they can finally call home. But life on the river is not easy.  On the waters, they meet up with the most eccentric array of people, encounter harrowing dangers, and make quick and stealthy escapes. In their journey that summer of 1932, they also learn lessons about life and the nature of God and their own unique places in this vast world. ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ I was swept away by the gorgeous prose of this book from page one.  Krueger is such a deep and reflective writer - his characters are so rich that they jump off the page, and the settings so descriptive that it's easy to be transported and forget you're not actually there on the rivers alongside this young crew.  In the past, I've sometimes found that when writing is so beautiful, descriptive, and reflective, it slows down the story.  I didn't feel that way with This Tender Land. I was so immersed in what I was reading and cared so much about these characters that I found I didn't want to put this book down.  I feel this book would appeal to such a wide variety of readers because it offers so much- an epic odyssey and adventure, a coming of age tale, and a historical fiction.  My husband walked in on me when I was on the very last page and said, "Oh my gosh, what's wrong?!" I held up my book, tears streaming down my face and blubbered, "It's just so beautiful." Needless to say, this one gets ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ glowing stars from me.⁣ ⁣ ⁣ QOTD: What's the last book that blew you
Finally, a five-star read! The Whisper Man is brilliant. It was so much more than a thriller. So many layers, and just blown away by the writing - the way the author weaved this story together. I thought the character development was outstanding, and it felt like every word in this story mattered. I did not expect to shed tears with this one, but it truly had me feeling so many emotions. So, yeah, I highly recommend this one. #thewhisperman #alexnorth #fivestarread

Happy Sunday, friends! I have to tell you about this amazing five star read I finished today! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Plus the cat was just looking too adorable to not share with you all. 😸📚 . 🔥 Patron Saints of Nothing is a coming of age story about Jason, a Filipino-American teenager who has just discovered that his cousin, Jun, is killed in the Philippines as part of the country’s war on drugs. Jason decides to travel to the Philippines and find out what really happened to Jun since none of his family is willing to discuss it. . 🔥 Jason is easy to love, and the writing was fast paced and quick to read. More importantly, what I really loved about this was the exposure of the Filipino culture as well as how the author shed some light on the bloodshed and deaths that have happened since President Duterte’s policies have been implemented in the Philippines. I think that many of us need the background and education of what’s going on in other countries today and how it is affecting families and people. This is an excellent showcasing in a fiction format. . 🔥 I also think this has excellent representation of a biracial person trying to find their identity in two very different cultures and coming to terms with themselves as a unique individual while also coming to terms with familial challenges, grief, faith, and finding purpose. While this was not my normal read, I would highly encourage everyone to pick this up as I think it has such an important message. . #book #books #bookstagram #read #reads #reading #bookworm #bookobsessed #bookcommunity #bookreviews #bookishfirst #fivestarread #bookaholic #patronsaintsofnothing #diversereads #ownvoices #catsofinstagram #meow #fluffykitty

Yay it's my day on the blog tour for this amazing middle grade book! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 out of 5! When I was invited to read this book I jumped at the chance! It's been so long that I read any middle grade and this sounded so cool! Boy I wasn't wrong! It fills me with Joy that children are gonna read this! Clementine is a 12 year old girl the heiress to The Dark Lord Elithior. She's brave and ultimately a very good representation of a strong female. Her radiance shines through and her love for her father is such a warm endearing part of this story. Elithor is cursed by The Whittling Witch, his nose has all but disappeared and his fingers are wooden. As an Evil Overlord in charge of the town where they live he has to make sure Clementine is ready to fulfil her duties. Filled with a cursed sheep, fire-breathing chickens and Scarecrows that run the farm in the castle this book is truly magical. It's hilariously funny filled to the brim with amazing characters, the descriptions in this book are nothing short of genuis! Overall this book is glorious. If you love Middle Grade or not I recommend it. I honestly can't wait for my children to read this I know they will love it as much as I do! Thank you so much to @algonquinyr @netgalley for this arc in exchange for an honest review!
My Sister the Serial Killer A reread that just gets better and better - please make this into a TV show! In a word: Refreshing! Genre: Crime thriller / dark noir Pages: 240 (but big writing!) Synopsis: Longsuffering Korede is torn between protecting her sister – who just so happens to keep murdering all of her boyfriends – and the need to protect the man she loves. Review: When I talk about wanting to read a thriller /crone novel with strong female characters, this is what I’m talking about! I cannot tell you how good it is to read a story where a woman is not the victim or the person who has to overcome violence – the usual thriller trope. By turning the genre on its head, Braithwaite has instead been able to inject much needed freshness into the genre. It has freed her to poke fun at so many stereotypes of what a woman should be - she shouldn't be strong, should care what people think and not take ownership of her figure and sexuality in how she dresses. Well Ayoola does all of that. I also love how Braithwaite is commenting on the horrendous knife culture that prevails today. Just like many men in our cities and towns, Ayoola is never without her knife. Does she need it? Obviously no, but by having this character own one it really shows the stupidity of what's currently going on s it's so easy to see that she wouldn't be in this position if she didn't carry one. Reading it a second time, I noticed just how much it reads like a TV series. The short chapters, few locations and characters and a dipping into their past history means everything reads like a scene, rather than chapters. It feels like every book is being adapted lately, please can this one be!! Photo: I took this at the Tower of London because Ayoola would definitely end up beheaded here if it happened hundreds of years ago! Also, I like how the Tower is surrounded by so many new skyscrapers and I feel like this represents Braithwaite- out with the old way of writing thrillers and

Chances of winning the Booker: Girl, Women, Other How ironic is it that my favourite story on the longlist BY A MILE was the first one I read! Girl, Women, Other is all the superlatives that you can imagine but aside from my personal opinion, let’s explore what it’s got going for it. I think I’ll leave it to Bernadine to describe it: “I wanted to write multiple stories into being on an ambitious scale and to say that we (black women) matter and are as important, imperfect, complicated, compassionate, funny, selfish and psychologically fascinating as any other human being on the planet.” The novel, which spans 100 years, is multi-generational thereby addressing the age-old bias that women are not interesting once they reach a certain age. Writing style: Fusion fiction - each of the 12 women have their own stories which are “fused” ie linked, together (as soon as I finished reading it I immediately wanted to go back through it just to see how she ‘fused’ them together, it’s a genius move!) Themes: Racism, immigration, sexual assault, transgender, lesbianism, motherhood, education, marriage - basically everything you can think of but it’s done in such a subtle way! Politics: The novel does loosely mention political themes, but only as a way to provide context on how it affects the women so yes Brexit is mentioned (but again, not in a preachy, condescending way). The Booker panel is predominantly women (see my story highlights for a breakdown of who they are) so I think this has such a good chance of winning. Combined with its focus on diversity (both in the novel and the judges on the panel) I really think this would be such a positive statement if it won as it would prove that not only are women stories are worth hearing, but that black women’s ideas are valid and should be listened to. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #girlwomanother #bernardineevaristo #bookerprize #bookerlonglist #bookershortlist #booker #bookstagramreadsthebooker
