Zach exercise tip: 1 The six foundational human movements. In general, when building a weekly block of exercise (mesocycle), most, if not all, of the six foundational human movements should be performed. They are; overhead press, overhead pull, horizontal press, Horizontal pull, a squatting movement, and a hip hinge. An example of this would be in order: dumbell overhead press Lat pulldown Pushups Cable row Goblet squat Hip extension machine The foundational movements are valuable because if you perform all of them in a mesocycle, you hit all of your major muscle groups, which will help keep balance and joint health in your training. Bonus movement, if you're looking to add on to the example and maximize your time in the gym is a lunge! Add these to your weekly program, and you'll be well on your way to moving heavy things with ease for fun.

💭 Doug Kechijian sharing his thoughts about training anti-rotation on the @simplifaster @jusyflysports podcast 💭⠀ -⠀ The palloff press is an exercise many coaches use, however, how many of you have ever questioned its transfer to athletic performance? ⠀ - ⠀ 👉 We want to hear your thoughts, who is a fan of the palloff press, and those that aren't can you provide an alternative? 🤔⠀ -⠀ 👇👇 Comment Below 👇👇
University is often held on a pedestal and considered the pinnacle institution of learning and reason. But should it be? Is there a downside to the typical ex science degree? Is it actually a prerequisite to longevity in the industry? Here are some of my thoughts on the topic. Watch it if you don’t mind a dose of the red pill every once and a while. What would we do instead? Get a great Cert IV (yeah we run one and our proud of what we’re achieving with it) and enter the industry for a couple of years. Build up the experience you’ll need while at uni and position yourself as a new graduate who can walk the walk, not just wave around a piece of paper with a wild HECS debt you’re trying to think doesn’t exist. What do you think? #study#uni#exercisescience#degree
So much goodness starts with ‘feeling’ our whole foot on the ground — it only makes sense to practice that pattern where possible TO FEEL more muscles working up the chain. There’s a bit more happening ‘under the hood’ here, but the principle is straight forward. The only thing I want you to think of is: Push your entire shoe through the wall. ✅Push-up position. ✅Both flat shoes glued against the wall. ✅Right shoe next to right hand. ✅Left shoe pushed against wall. ✅Right elbow to right big toe. ✅Whole left shoe pushes against wall. ✅Right fist punches the roof — look at what your punching. ✅Entire left shoe pushes against wall. ✅Push your hand down hard to make a handprint in the ground. ✅Show me an even-looking shoe-print in the wall. Notice a theme there? If you keep pushing the entire shoe into the wall, you’ll feel what I want you to feel. You’ll feel a MEGA hip flexor stretch. You’ll feel MEGA abs Hella hamstrings. Crazy Glutes. You’ll feel a MEGA stretch in the groin. You’ll feel your ‘back’ opening up if you so happen to breathe & keep shoe contact. As an added bonus, If you add in a purposeful in/exhalation at each ‘step’ you’ll feel the ribs expanding in a 360 fashion, instead of the common ‘up into the neck/upper chest’. I’ll be talking about this concept & application at 𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐕𝐄+ during my talk/hands-on: “Design environments & cues to force flawless technique” 👋🏼Tag a friend who’s in the industry & would want to attend this FIRST-OF-ITS-KIND round-table conversation for health & fitness pros in #montreal.
Intermittent fasting (IF) and exercise alone improve brain and metabolic health, but what are the effects of IF and exercise done together? Alec Wallace’s thesis is investigating the effects of IF and exercise on brain neurotrophic factor (BDNF) levels in the blood and markers of metabolic health. #pexslab#exercisephysiology#exercisescience#bdnf#intermittenfasting
Year 3️⃣ Today was the Open House for St Joes, designed to show off the school for incoming 8th graders and potential transfers. I remember going to this in 8th grade, then working it and representing the golf team every year I was there. Talking to new families about the program at the school makes me realize how much fun this job is and how many students have walked through my doors the past 3 years. There’s a handful of kids I’ve worked with since day one, since their freshman year and they’re starting to get looked at by colleges for football and lacrosse, it’s unreal. I’ve been able to enrich the lives of so many students here just through lifting weights and sharing stories. We’ve gone from a dozen football players benching to almost every team at the school coming in for organized sessions and countless students who don’t even play sports. This school has given me so many opportunities to change these kids lives and I’m thankful for being able to continue to represent this incredible school. #stjoes#highschool#weightroom#weights#school#strength#strengthandconditioning#gym#exercise#exercisescience#thankful
