Blue light is that emanates from your phone, computer, and household fixtures. New research suggests that the blue wavelengths produced by light-emitting diodes damage cells in the brain as well as retinas(a thin layer of cells that lines the back of the eye on the inside). The study conducted at  Oregon State University is published today in Aging and Mechanisms of Disease, suggests that LED light exposure acts as a stressor to accelerate aging and shorten life span. The study was done on common fruit flies subjecting them daily for 12 hours in light and 12 hours in darkness. Flies exposed to "Blue light" had shorter lives compared to flies kept in total darkness or those kept in light with the blue wavelengths filtered out. With the use of LED lighting and device displays, humans are subjected to increasing amounts of light in the blue spectrum since commonly used LEDs emit a high fraction of blue light. You can also take cold showers, take a swim in an unheated pool or try cryotherapy. Seeing them speak on stage brought back memories of my Step-Dad’s couch, junk food, our dog Snowie, & a deep love of fashion and makeup. ⁣⠀ I spent too many years ashamed of this love - fearful that I would be seen as dumb or conceited. ⁣⠀ 3 years ago I took my power back & I haven’t turned around since. I’ve been so focused on my recent growth that I forgot the 8 year old girl. I forgot my Step-Father’s couch. I forgot about the days I spent obsessed over What Not To Wear. I hope that little girl is proud of me. I think she is. ⁣⠀ Today reminded me how far I’ve come and how far I have to go. I’m up for the challenge. Everyone deserves food and it’s ok to eat a few cookies now and then and I’ll be ok, I will be ok. I’m going to be ok and so will you. Ask yourself important questions about your unique experience with stress, anxiety, depression, or related feelings.⁣ 2. Identify the situations, places, and people that trigger you to feel this way.⁣ 3. Develop healthy coping mechanisms by considering the strategies you already use and strategies you’d be open to trying.⁣ 4. Evaluate your support system. Who would you feel comfortable reaching out to if you were struggling?⁣ 5. Seek out places you feel safe.
