Random but fantastic art/music day today. Trekked across the water to @thepolygongallery in North Van to catch The Clock by Christian Marclay. Fascinating film. [From @wikipedia : The Clock is an art installation by video artist Christian Marclay. It is a looped 24-hour video supercut (montage of scenes from film and television) that feature clocks or timepieces. The artwork itself functions as a clock: its presentation is synchronized with the real time, resulting in the time shown in a scene being the actual time.] We caught the film at 1:35pm. Would love to see the full 24 hours. Later, we crossed back over the water to see Broken Shadows at @western_front - incredible jazz show. The video clip I show here is just for example (from an unknown previously played show). #todaywasagoodday#theclock#christianmarclay#art#jazz#brokenshadows#ornettecoleman#juliushemphill
If you're looking for a unique interactive exhibition, head to @LACMA for #christianmarclay's #soundstories. The large gallery space has been divided into five smaller dark rooms, each with an audiovisual installation that uses #snapchat as its source material. Marclay was invited to mine this collection of “public content” and worked with Snapchat’s engineers to create new algorithms based on specific searches — categorized by sounds rather than by subject matter. On view through Oct 14, this is a must see. Read our review by Jody Zellen (@jzother) to learn more about the individual installations. Link in the bio!
“Compositions,” the major exhibition of work by Christian Marclay, closes on September 24 at MACBA: Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona. Curated by Tanya Barson, "Compositions" examines Marclay’s work through his engagement with composition—understood as the ordering of sounds in time and space as well as visual composition. Each piece on view reveals the ways in which Marclay approaches the creation of a composition, and how this relates to other aspects of his work such as his deployment of the techniques of appropriation and montage, as well as his engagement in performance and his tendency towards inviting participation and collaboration. #christianmarclay#macba . . . .
