🙌 The Berkeley Peace and Justice Commission passed a resolution to support myself and the 5 other activists facing felony charges in Sonoma County. . 🤞Tomorrow, on December 10th, the resolution will go before the Berkeley City Council! . 👉👉We want to show City Council members that Berkeley residents care about this issue. We will be attending their meeting and speaking in support, and we need YOU there! . --- The resolution says: Now, therefore, be it resolved, that the Berkeley City Council (1) holds that the six individuals being prosecuted in Sonoma County are non-violent activists who were investigating and attempting to expose the abuses of nonhuman animals in factory farms; (2) encourages the Sonoma County District Attorney to dismiss such prosecution or exercise leniency, and to devote the resources that could be saved from these actions to instead investigate and prosecute animal cruelty in commercial animal operations in Sonoma County; (3) encourages law and regulatory enforcement agencies in California, including the California Attorney General and the California Department of Food and Agriculture, to investigate and prosecute animal cruelty in commercial animal operations that supply stores throughout California; (4) urges the California State Legislature to pass laws expanding the protection of nonhuman animals raised in commercial operations from abuse; and (5) affirms the commitment of the Berkeley City Council to the protection from all suffering and harm of all animals both within Berkeley and around the world. WHERE: 1231 Addison Street, Berkeley WHEN: December 10th 5:30pm WEAR: Blue DxE shirt, if you don’t have one please email [email protected] WHO: You and all your friends! We need as many people as possible to be there in person to support the Right to Rescue animals.

“As the career of Richard Diebenkorn developed in the middle of the twentieth century, every limit and style of painting was challenged, demolished, and reborn,” wrote Chester Arnold. “‘The death of painting’ was a recurring mantra—a death that, despite many obituaries, proved to be unfounded. Rather than follow an era’s agenda, Diebenkorn forged his own path, one of relentless experiment and quiet integrity.” . #diebenkorn used art history to find his own way to paint figuratively in the ‘50s and ‘60s, a time when that mode of painting was not widely accepted. For ten years he depicted his own personal objects, furniture, and rooms in his home and studio. Many of his interiors are devoid of people, focusing instead on the inanimate objects that were precious to him. . Here the artist sets the mood with a deep blue that pervades a closely framed composition of a table with two mugs and a filled ashtray. Diebenkorn achieves an appealing balance between nostalgia and the contemporary. . Cups II, 1957, oil on canvas, 20 5/8 x 24 in. (52.4 x 61 cm) . “When I was offered admission to UC Berkeley, I was ecstatic. But, at the same time, I was terrified. Coming to Cal as a junior transfer student was intimidating in so many ways and for so many reasons. I was ready to leave my community college to pursue my academic goals, but I was also nervous for the transition from a small community college to a large public university. Finding a community was a priority for me. I knew that sororities were an option, but had never really considered joining one because I wasn’t sure if I would ‘fit in.’ Sorority life sounded interesting to me, but I held the misconception that they all operated like the clichés in the movies. But, the more research I did on Berkeley’s sororities, the more I realized that the ideas I held about sorority life might be wrong. ⠀ As a transfer student, I knew that my college experience would be condensed; I wanted to make each and every moment I have here count. I didn’t want to leave Berkeley with any ‘what ifs,’ so I decided to join a sorority. ⠀ I joined Kappa Alpha Theta and I’m happy that I can call Theta my home-away-from-home. When I first walked into our house, I was greeted with open arms and had an immediate gut feeling telling me that Theta was where I was meant to be. Upon joining, I had a support system of inspiring and caring individuals. I know that I could call anyone in Theta and they would be there for me, whether that be for midnight chats or spontaneous trips to San Francisco. Joining Theta smoothed my transition and has shown me how I can maximize the short amount of time I have here at Berkeley.” ⠀ Gabby H. is a junior double-majoring in media studies and political science and is an active member of her sorority, @caltheta. Before transferring to @ucberkeleyofficial, Gabby attended @sierra.college. ⠀ As part of @theleadcenter, CalGreeks is a collection of over 60 local, national, and international fraternities and sororities. Rooted in leadership,
"Birthday in Berkeley" 🤟🔥 Growing up in the #bayarea of #california I had birthday parties in some pretty interesting places. One of them was Phill's house in #berkeley. I always loved going to Phil's house because it was full of #psychadelicart and #modernart. One rainy Saturday night Phil threw a surprise party for me on my #birthday. I received an #acrylicpainting that inspires me to this day. Phil's gift piqued my interest in #art, particularly #fliudart. Thank you Phil!
"I could talk for days about why moving to Berkeley 7 years ago was the best decision I've made thus far, but ultimately, what tops that list is the friendships I've made along the way. As I'm away from home this Thanksgiving, I'm especially grateful to all the friends, new and old, who have stuck by my side over the years, and I'm specifically thankful for my Berkeley day ones, Amanda and Chris. Berkeley brought us together, but our discussions, debates, passions, arguments, and shared experiences have kept us together on this incredible adventure, even after moving out of our shared Berkeley home. I'm eternally thankful for the ways in which you both have consistently pushed me out of my comfort zone, questioned me, challenged me, cared for me, and loved on me, because I wouldn't be where I am today if it weren't for our friendship and the growth that has directly benefited me as a result. Here's to many more amazing years with y'all! 💛🐻💙 #gobears" ⠀ Jeshua J.
