We started our day in Belfast, and left before the sun rose. A few hours later we arrived @bunrattycastle.ie This is one of my most favorite places in Ireland. The castle is amazing and the village surrounding it fantastic! I couldn't wait for the kids to experience it and watch their reactions. Predictably, the younger boys quickly found "wands" and began Harry Pottering their way through the whole grounds. Linka was amazed by the Fairy Kindgom! Overall Bunratty is an awesome family friendly destination! There are some very steep, winding staircases, and a few levels of stairs so keep that in mind if you have littles. There are several small huts, cottages, and manors l throughout the grounds. In a few of them you can catch cast members cooking griddle bread! As a bonus there are a few ice cream shops on the grounds and two really good cafes at the end of your adventure. Highly recommended!! #ireland🍀 #littlepiecesofireland#7backpacks#ig_europe #igersireland🇮🇪 #familytravel
Scenes from our day: Bunratty Castle in County Clare, Irish apple pie a la mode in Ennis (very different pie crust), and a Seattle encounter at the petrol station. I had Lyons Gold tea with a splash of milk instead.
This was by far the coolest thing. It was a village that has been preserved that you can walk through and see how it was back then. They even had deer and other animals! The history and structures alone were amazing.
Day 7 .... Ennis and Bunratty. Visited Bunratty Castle, built in 1425. Amazing grounds around the castle. Had lunch at a pub - Durty Kelly’s, established in 1620. The countryside and history is amazing. Had a wonderful concert of Irish music tonight too...the connection between Ireland and the USA is so positive and strong. Oh, and to top it off, a good friend and Neonatal Nurse Practitoner Colleague from Louisville, KY (who I haven’t seen in 17 years!) happened to be here at the same hotel in Ennis tonight! Great catching up with Dustie Newburn and Don. The Hurricane / Tropical Storm turned out to be a non issue ... little of bit of wind and rain. We even saw the sun today!
