Thank you for the feature @theconduitlondon 😁 . Posted @withrepost • @theconduitlondon We are focusing on all things food this week and spoke to one member who is an expert on all foodie business: @miramanek, author of the newly published Prajna, ‘Ayurvedic Rituals for Happiness’. She also happens to own a café only a short walk away in Kingly Court, ‘@chaibymira.’ We touched base with her earlier today and asked her some delicious questions. . What is your favourite cooking memory? There’s one particular moment I remember as though it happened yesterday - and makes me laugh each time! I was at a herbal remedy shop in Covent Garden and they showed me a small jar of fenugreek seeds when I said my father has cholesterol. So I brought home this tiny jar and told my grandmother she must use it in her cooking. She laughed as she pulled a large jar of these magic little seeds and told me she uses it every day in curries and daals! I actually start my introduction in my first book Saffron Soul with this very anecdote! I can’t say this is the moment which inspired my cooking journey and career ~ that happened much later ~ but it’s certainly one of those vivid memories! . What is your favourite dish, and why? A difficult question as it all depends on the season, time of day and mood! But I do love the masala grilled aubergine from my book because it brings together flavours and elements of the traditional Gujarati food that I grew up eating and that I still eat, but rather than making a curry from this, I’ve changed the way it’s served and made it into a layered grilled aubergine with the very same mix my mother and grandmother still make, just adding tahini and layering rather like a miso grilled aubergine. I drizzle it with a little dill yoghurt, coriander leaves and pomegranates. . . In terms of my go-to food, it’s ginger-infused chai, dates with nuts and porridge with cinnamon topped with stewed fruits and nuts, especially at this time of
If you were worried I'd abandoned my charity shopping ways, fear not! This faux fur was £12.99 from @sheltershops on Holloway Road. I do have a bit of a faux fur coat collection (this is number 4 or 5... not ideal when you live in a tiny flat!) But I cant resist them and this one is in such good nick, lining intact, no holes in pockets and the perfect length sleeves. My trick is I buy coats in summer because they are always cheaper then
I've recently been feeling like I've lost my way a bit sartorially. I've put on weight and things have not been fitting, plus I hate 'in between season' dressing, I hate autumn and wearing jumpers and I haven't found an easy vintage style for colder weather and I'm a really chilly person. I buy a lot second hand, but to shake me out of my style slump I thought I'd try ordering some bits from @kitristudio. When I put this shiny pleather dungaree thing on it was like coming home, something modern that I live and can style up in a few ways. Last night I put it with a grey tee, snakeskin heels and charity shopped belt and bag that make me think of 90s Versace. I haven't loved an outfit this much in ages. Expect to see a lot of this over the next few months
Got caught showing my 🇮🇹 side here at my good friend Amelia's @involvenepal charity dinner 👌 - Proud to call you my friend Amelia!! You are doing more than 99% out there to make the world a better place, keep doing your thang! ✊✊
We are conscious to use this platform to celebrate the stories that support sustainable living and the positive side of the climate crisis, but we’ve noticed a strong theme coming through our dm’s that we think is important to share. We asked you to tell us your feelings about eco anxiety and our climate crisis, here’s a collection of the most common themes that are coming up: - I feel like a hypocrite because I can’t protest as I have to work in an office - The little changes I’m making aren’t enough to solve this monster of a problem - Climate anxiety is seriously making me consider having children, is it fair to bring someone into a unstable world? - The media are confusing and I’m not sure where to learn about the truth - How can one person make a lasting impact? - No matter the personal changes I make I feel like it’s not enough - So overwhelmed by the truth this planet faces - What happens if our government doesn’t take this seriously? Is it then in the hands of the individual to change the course of our future? - I’m disappointed in our government and leadership for not taking this seriously enough, this is a crisis. That’s just a small proportion of anxiety filled messages we have had/ have on almost a daily basis, it’s clear many of us are feeling disempowered. Extinction Rebellion are demanding positive change, action and legislation. They are setting an amazing example of how important it is to come together, and to not take no for an answer. However we are very aware not everyone can feel physically part of the XR movement. So here’s the question: Firstly, do you feel like this? And secondly, how can we feel more connected and EMPOWERED to fight this together and come out the other side?

‘The Doomsday Machine: Confessions of a Nuclear War Planner’ - Daniel Ellsberg. Ellsberg said this about nuclear weapons - it’s better stated nowadays on our confrontation with man-made climate change. ‘Let’s go do something useful ..... let’s direct ourselves to the long and bitter - but beautiful - struggle for a new world’.

Super book! I really enjoyed talking with Mariana at the HowTheLightGetsIn festival - and a joy to hear her speak on subjects in which she is a world-expert. Working at The Conduit, lovely and delicious soups and gluten-free bread, super coffees and great conversations fuel my day. Off to Dance Umbrella this evening, Oona Docherty’s ‘Hard to be Soft’ at QEH London is set to be thrilling! And an action-packed working weekend to follow. So happy, feeling healthy - time for a cigar and a drink!

This statement by @marieforleo is deceptively simple and easy to dismiss. Especially when the sh*t hits the fan 😂. I had the pleasure of meeting Marie this week @theconduitlondon and listen to her talk about how this has been the north star guiding her since the age of 9.⠀ ⠀ I came to her session after a trying presentation that didn't go my way. I was feeling disheartened and wondering whether I was just dreaming too big for my business. ⠀ ⠀ Listening to her talk about how she's built her super successful business from the ground up as an independent female entrepreneur over 20 years - all while wearing a sparkly green dress and silver slippers at 8am in rainy London - put a spring back in my step.☺️✨ ⠀ I'm not sure if everything is figureoutable, but I am sure that believing it, and acting from that place, gets us much further along the road to our dreams. Wishing everyone a beautiful Friday x ⠀ #wonderoom#wondercommunity#marieforleo#beinspired#quoteoftheday#sparkchange#inspirationalquote#entrepreneurlife#everythingisfigureoutable
Arrived in London, got checked in to my hotel, attended a board meeting of the Rockwood Leadership Institute via zoom, and now at a fundraising event for OutRight Action International @outrightintl #supremetravels#lgbtq#queerpower
✨BE THE CHANGE✨ How do you start your day? _ Feeling inspired by this morning’s talk by Satish Kumar @theconduitlondon _ He said he was 18 when he decided to become and activist and now he is 83 and he is still an activist. _ For him being an activist is an act of love. It is about acting from hope and love instead of hatred. _ It is about saying yes AND no, one alone is not enough. _ Everyone of us has a choice to either make the world a better place or contribute to the us versus them mentality and create more division and more conflict in the world. _ When I asked him about one thing we could all do to make the world a better place, he suggested meditation: _ While we all have different roles to play in the world, he suggested that 20 minutes of meditation in the morning and tuning into a sense of oneness with all of existence is an easy thing that all of us could do to contribute to making the world a better place. _ The way I practice this in my own life is to start my day with the following ritual: _ 🔷Gratitude for being alive 🔷What else am I grateful for 🔷 Sending love to the ones I love 🔷Meditation practice 🔷Asking to be of service and directed to where my help is most needed _ How could you start your day connected to something bigger than yourself? _ How could your day in order to do your work in the world from a place of love and hope instead of division?🙏❤️
A reverse fur Eric Bainbridge painting - part of our Autumn hang @theconduitlondon . Eric Bainbridge Untitled, 2015 Fur fabric 140 x 140 cm 55 1/8 x 55 1/8 in #ericbainbridge#fakefur#painting#abstraction . Initially recognized in the 1980s for his object-based works covered in synthetic fur, Eric Bainbridge has evolved an extensive sculptural practice addressing existential themes on an everyday level through playful assemblages. Constructed out of commonplace objects and inexpensive building materials, his pieces continuously re-contextualize Modernist principles through a reconsideration of the found object using DIY home-repair and improvement supplies as well as kitschy consumer products. Carefully staged, Bainbridge's assemblages investigate the domestic and the everyday whilst reflexively engaging with traditional sculptural concerns. Eric Bainbridge was born in Consett, County Durham, UK in 1955. He studied at Newcastle Polytechnic and completed a Masters in Sculpture from the Royal College of Art, London in 1981. Bainbridge has exhibited Internationally in significant group and solo exhibitions and is considered an influential figure to a younger generation of established British artists. Throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s he showed in important group exhibitions such as “Material Culture” at the Hayward Gallery, London and solo exhibitions including “View Points” The Walker Art Centre, Minnieapolis, “Eric Bainbridge” at The ICA, Boston, “Style, Space, Elegance” at The Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam. Bainbridge was included in “Modern British Sculpture” at the Royal Academy, London
